Fix Unable to Send OTP When Verifying a WhatsApp Number
WhatsApp OTPs fail on a Sparkforge sub-account when the number is already registered with the regular WhatsApp Business app. Deactivate that account or use a different number.
If a Sparkforge sub-account cannot receive the OTP to verify a WhatsApp number, the number is almost always already registered with the regular WhatsApp Business app. WhatsApp Business API (WABA) cannot share a number with the consumer app.
Verify registration status
- Check whether the phone number is active on WhatsApp.
- Use a tool like 2Chat WhatsApp Checker, or check directly in the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app.
If the number is already registered
The number cannot be used for WABA while it is tied to the regular WhatsApp Business app. Two options:
- Use a different number for WABA registration.
- Deactivate the existing WhatsApp account on the number, then retry registration.
Note: After deactivation, the number takes time to fully release. Wait before attempting WABA registration again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I not receiving the OTP?
The number is already registered with the regular WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app. WABA cannot send an OTP to a number that is in use by the consumer apps.
How do I check if a number is registered with WhatsApp?
Use a tool like 2Chat WhatsApp Checker or open the WhatsApp / WhatsApp Business app and check whether the number has an active account.
What do I do if the number is in use?
Either pick a different number for WABA, or deactivate the existing WhatsApp account on that number first. After deactivation, wait before retrying — the number takes time to fully release.
How long does the release take after deactivation?
Variable. Allow a few minutes to several hours, then retry. If it still fails after a day, contact Sparkforge support.
