How to Delete Contacts and Their Data in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Only Admins can delete contacts. Deleted contacts can be restored within 60 days, but their conversations, notes, and tasks are not recovered. Use workflows to automate deletion of unsubscribed or inactive contacts.

Deleting contacts in Sparkforge removes the record from all campaigns, workflows, and lists. Use it for outdated records, unsubscribed contacts, or fulfilling regulatory data requests. Read this first — deletion is mostly recoverable for the contact itself, but not for the activity history attached to it.

Before you delete

 • Only Admins can delete contacts.
 • Deleted contacts can be restored within 60 days.
 • Associated data — conversations, notes, tasks, activity history — is permanently removed and is not recovered when you restore the contact.
 • Export to CSV first if you need a record.

Manual deletion

 1. Open Contacts in your Sparkforge dashboard.
 2. Select contacts: tick the checkbox in the column header to grab everything on the page (or in the list), or check individual rows.
 3. Click Delete at the top of the contact list.
 4. Type DELETE to confirm.
 5. Watch progress on the Bulk Actions page.

If you don't see the trash icon in a Smart List view, you haven't selected any contacts yet — selection makes the icon appear. If it still doesn't show, you don't have admin permissions; talk to your account administrator.

Restoring deleted contacts

 1. Go to Contacts → Restore.
 2. Select the contacts to restore.
 3. Click Restore.
 4. Confirm.

Again: restoring brings the contact record back, not its conversations, notes, or tasks.

Automating deletion with workflows

Useful for cleaning up unsubscribed, inactive, or invalid contacts.

 1. Go to Automations → Workflows and create a new workflow.
 2. Add the Delete Contact action.
 3. Set a trigger — for example, a tag like Unsubscribed, or no engagement after a window.
 4. Test, then activate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I recover a deleted contact?
Yes — within 60 days from Contacts → Restore. Beyond that the record is permanently removed. Restoration brings the contact back but not the conversations, notes, or tasks attached to it.
Why can't I delete a contact?
Either you don't have Admin permissions or the contact is in an active campaign or workflow. Check user roles under Settings → My Staff, and remove the contact from any active automations first.
Does deleting a contact affect my reports?
It can. Historical campaign metrics and email deliverability stats may shift because the underlying contact record is gone.
Can I bulk delete?
Yes — select multiple contacts in the list, click Delete, and confirm. Track progress on the Bulk Actions page.
How do I make sure only Admins can delete?
Review user roles under Settings → My Staff and make sure non-admin users don't have delete permissions on contacts.
