Advanced Filters in Sparkforge Smart Lists

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Advanced Filters in Smart Lists let you segment contacts using field, operator, and value rules. Combine filters with AND/OR logic to build precise lists for outreach, reporting, and automation.

Smart Lists in Sparkforge get sharper when you stop filtering on tags alone and start using Advanced Filters. Each filter is a field, an operator, and a value. Operators change based on the field type so you get the right comparison for dates, strings, numbers, and yes/no flags.

How to set up an Advanced Filter

  1. Go to Contacts and click + Smart List.
  2. Click Advanced Filters.
  3. Search and select the field.
  4. Pick the operator that matches the segmentation you want.
  5. Enter or pick the value.
  6. Click + Add Nested Filter for an AND condition.
  7. Click + Add Filter for an OR condition.
  8. Click Apply.

Date filters

Date filters work on any field that stores a date or date-and-time, including Last Appointment At, Date of Birth, Created On, Last Activity On, Last Email Opened, and Last Email Clicked.

Relative date

  • Is Today / Tomorrow / Yesterday
  • Is This Week / This Month / This Quarter / This Year

Exact date

  • Is On a specific date
  • Is Between two dates

Time difference

  • Is More Than N days/weeks/months ago
  • Is Less Than N days/weeks/months ago
  • Is In the Next N days
  • Is In the Last N days

Comparison

  • Is After Date
  • Is Before Date

Negative

Every positive operator has an Is Not inverse so you can exclude rather than include.

Empty / Not Empty

  • Is Empty finds contacts with no record on that date field.
  • Is Not Empty finds contacts with at least one record.

DND filters

DND filters check whether a channel is opted out for a contact. Useful for compliant outreach and SMS list cleanup.

Available DND fields: DND All, SMS DND, Email DND, Calls & Voicemails DND, WhatsApp DND, Inbound DND, FB Messenger DND, GMB Messenger DND. Each supports Enabled or Disabled.

String filters

String filters cover names, emails, addresses, tags, opportunity pipelines, attribution, and most custom text fields. Some accept free text, some pick from a dropdown, some accept comma-separated lists.

OperatorUse it for
Is / Is NotExact match (or exclusion) of one value
Contains / Does Not ContainSubstring match anywhere in the field
Is any of / Is none ofComma-separated list of allowed or excluded values
Is Empty / Is Not EmptyFind blanks or non-blanks

New custom fields inherit operator behavior by type: single/multi-line text follows score rules, text-box list follows time-zone rules, and dropdowns/radios/checkboxes follow tag rules.

Numeric filters

Numeric filters work on engagement score, quiz scores, and any custom number, phone, or monetary field.

  • Equal To / Does Not Equal
  • Between two values
  • Greater Than / Greater Than or Equal To
  • Less Than / Less Than or Equal To
  • Is Empty / Is Not Empty

Best practices

  • Use In the Last to spot recent engagement.
  • Use More Than to flag dormant contacts for re-engagement.
  • Use Between for fixed-window historical reports.
  • Use Is Empty to find leads that never booked or never converted.
  • Pair DND filters with status filters before any bulk SMS or call campaign.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all fields support every operator?
No. The operators you see depend on the field type. A date field gets date operators; a number field gets numeric operators.
Can I combine multiple Advanced Filters?
Yes. Use Nested Filters for AND logic and additional Filters for OR logic to build complex segments.
Can I filter contacts by opportunity data?
Yes. Opportunity filters cover pipeline, stage, and status, so you can segment by where a deal sits in your sales process.
How do I exclude opted-out contacts from a campaign list?
Add a DND filter for the channel you plan to use (SMS DND, Email DND, etc.) set to Disabled. Only contacts who have not opted out will match.
What happens to custom fields I create later?
New custom fields inherit operator behavior from their type: text fields follow string rules, numbers follow numeric rules, and dropdowns/radios/checkboxes follow tag rules.
