Add Contact Modal Upgrade and Custom Fields in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge’s upgraded Add Contact slide-out lets admins choose which fields appear, mark fields required, and reorder layout. Users get faster contact entry with consistent data quality.

The upgraded Add Contact experience in Sparkforge replaces the classic pop-up with a slide-out modal and gives admins control over which fields appear and in what order. Configure the form once, and the whole team gets a consistent, responsive create flow.

Note: Add Contact Modal Upgrade and Customization is currently a Labs feature. If you don’t see it, ask an admin to enable it at Agency settings → Labs.

What’s in the upgrade

  • Slide-out modal: Stay on the page while creating contacts.
  • Custom field support: Standard and contact-level custom fields can appear on the form.
  • Drag-and-drop ordering: Match the form to your team’s workflow.
  • Required toggles: Make critical fields mandatory before save.
  • Preview and unsaved-changes protection: Validate the layout and avoid lost edits.
  • Save and Save & Add Another: Fast back-to-back entry.

Why this matters

  • Faster entry: Slide-out keeps you in context while creating.
  • Cleaner data: Show only fields the team needs; hide the rest.
  • Higher quality: Required fields prevent incomplete records (for example, Contact Type).
  • Custom field aware: Capture unique data points at creation, not later.
  • Admin governance: Admins set the layout; users focus on selling.

Permissions and access

  • Customize the layout: Admin-level users in the sub-account (via Roles & Permissions).
  • Create contacts: Any user with access to the Contacts area can use the configured form.

Duplicates and data quality

  • Set Settings → Business Profile → Contact Deduplication Preferences to choose primary and secondary match fields like Email or Phone.
  • CSV imports always check email and phone and merge matches — duplicates can’t be created via CSV.
  • If duplicates slip in from forms or integrations, merge up to 10 contacts and pick a master record.

Set up the custom Add Contact modal

  1. Open the sidebar: In your sub-account, go to Contacts → Smart Lists → + Add Contact.
  2. Customize the form (admins): Click Customize Form to add or remove standard and custom fields, then drag to reorder.
  3. Set required fields: Toggle Required for any field that must be filled before save.
  4. Preview and save: Use Preview to validate, then save the layout for the team.
  5. Optional automation: Use a Contact Created workflow trigger to send welcomes, assign owners, or tag new contacts.

Creating a contact

Everyone uses the same entry point: Contacts → Smart Lists → + Add Contact. Complete the required fields, then choose:

  • Save to create the contact.
  • Save & Add Another for rapid back-to-back entries.
  • Cancel to exit without saving.

If you try to close the modal with unsaved changes, you’ll get a confirm prompt before losing edits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can customize the Add Contact form layout?
Admin-level users in the sub-account (via Roles & Permissions). Regular users use the configured form.
Can I include custom fields on the Add Contact form?
Yes. Any contact-level custom field can be added, reordered, and marked required. Manage fields at Settings → Custom Fields.
How do I prevent duplicate contacts during intake?
Configure Contact Deduplication Preferences and choose email or phone matching. CSV imports auto-merge by email and phone, so they can’t create duplicates.
What automations pair well with this?
Start with a Contact Created workflow to assign owners, tag by source, and send a welcome. Use Create Contact and Update Contact Field actions as needed.
Does "Save & Add Another" carry over the previous values?
No. It creates the contact and reopens a blank form. Use a workflow to auto-apply tags or owners if you need consistency across entries.
Do modal-required fields apply to CSV imports or API creates?
No. Required rules in the Add Contact modal apply to manual entry only. CSV imports and API requests have their own validations.
