How to Assign a Phone Number to a User in Sparkforge
Assign a Sparkforge phone number to a single user so all inbound calls route to them. Add the number under Phone Numbers, then either set the Inbound Number on the user profile, choose them under Ring All on the number itself, or assign them directly from a contact record.
Assigning a phone number to a user means every inbound call to that number rings only that user. There are three ways to set it up. Method 1 is the most explicit and easiest to audit.
Method 1: through user settings
- Buy or port the number, then go to Location Settings → Phone Numbers and click Add Number to register it.
- Open My Staff and edit the user who should own the number.
- Expand Call & Voicemail Settings.
- Pick the number from the Inbound Number dropdown.
- Save.
Method 2: through the phone number record
Open Phone Numbers, click the pencil on the number, and pick the user under Ring All. All inbound calls for that number ring that user.
Method 3: from a contact record
Open the contact, click Unassigned User, and pick the right user. The number associated with that contact's calls now routes to the assigned user.
Important constraints
- Only one user can own one number at a time.
- Once assigned, every inbound call to that number routes to that user — no round-robin or overflow on this setting.
- You can't assign multiple numbers to the same user via Inbound Number. The user can have other phone permissions (outbound, workflow), but only one inbound assignment.
