Gamification in Sparkforge Communities: Points, Badges, Leaderboards
Sparkforge Communities gamification awards points for likes on posts and comments, displays badges by level, and ranks members on a leaderboard. Levels and the point structure are preset and not editable; rewards are managed offline.
Gamification in Sparkforge Communities uses points, badges, and a leaderboard to surface activity and reward consistent engagement. It is built into Communities at the group level — there is nothing to install.
How it works
Three components work together:
- Points — numerical values earned when other members like your posts, comments, and replies. 1 like = 1 point for the post or comment author.
- Badges — visual achievements that update automatically as a member hits new levels.
- Leaderboard — ranking of members by points within a single group.
Group-scoped levels
Levels are scoped to each group. A member at Level 3 in one group starts at Level 1 if they join a different group.
Setting up gamification
- Go to Memberships > Communities > Groups.
- Open the group you manage.
- Click Settings.
- Open the Gamification & Rewards tab.
- Edit level names if you want — the count and point thresholds cannot be changed.
- Add up to three rewards.
- Review and enable leaderboard settings.
- Save.
Levels and point thresholds
Maximum 9 levels. Thresholds are preset:
| Level | Points required |
|---|---|
| 1 | 0 |
| 2 | 5 |
| 3 | 20 |
| 4 | 65 |
| 5 | 155 |
| 6 | 515 |
| 7 | 2,015 |
| 8 | 8,015 |
| 9 | 33,015 |
When a member reaches a level, their profile badge updates, the circular progress ring fills, and the next level's threshold is shown.
Rewards
Group admins or owners can add up to three text-based rewards (for example, "Win $50 after reaching Level 5"). Rewards display on the left nav inside the Leaderboard tab.
Note: rewards cannot be linked programmatically to gamification levels. You manage and deliver them offline.
