Sparkforge chat widgets include a pre-filled Message field that gives every new conversation an opening line. Visitors can edit it before sending, and personal details stay in the CRM rather than the transcript.

Sparkforge chat widgets include a customizable Message field in the contact form. Set a default opening line so every visitor starts the conversation with context. Personal details — name, phone, email — stay inside the CRM contact record instead of the transcript.

Where the field appears

  • WhatsApp Chat Widget
  • Email/SMS Chat Widget
  • All-in-One Chat Widget (multi-channel)
  • Voice AI Chat Widget

Live Chat widgets continue to use the existing free-form message box and do not include this field.

Field logic

  • If the contact form does not already include a message field, this one is required and pre-populated with editable text.
  • If the form already has a message field, the new field is optional. Keep it, remove it, or reorder it as you like.
  • The widget saves and embeds the same way in either case.

Customizing the pre-filled message

  • Click the Message field in the builder and type up to 255 characters of default text.
  • Insert merge fields for dynamic context (e.g. business name).
  • Drag-and-drop to reorder fields.
  • Toggle Required when the field is optional.

Visitor experience

Visitors see the pre-filled text inside the message box. They can send it as-is, edit it, or replace it before submitting. The final submitted message appears in the conversation transcript.

How to set up the field

  1. From the left navigation, open Sites and select Chat Widget.
  2. Click + New in the top right.
  3. Choose the chat type: WhatsApp, Email/SMS, All-in-One, Voice AI, or Live Chat.
  4. Open the Chat Window tab.
  5. Edit the Chat Window Title, Intro Message, and Prefilled Message Text.
  6. Save and embed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the new Message field replace my existing message field?
No. If your contact form already has one, the new field is optional and you choose which to keep.
Can I use different default messages on different pages?
Yes. Create multiple widgets with unique pre-filled text and embed each on the page where it fits.
Where does the visitor's edited message end up?
The final submitted message appears in the conversation transcript. Personal details (name, phone, email) stay in the CRM contact record.
Does Live Chat support this field?
Not yet. Live Chat continues to use its native free-text message box.
How long can the default text be?
Up to 255 characters, including spaces.
Will my "Customer Replied" workflows still trigger?
Yes. The visitor's first submitted message — pre-filled or edited — triggers any workflow listening for Customer Replied.
