How to Build Custom Metrics in Sparkforge Dashboards

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Custom Metrics let you define KPIs by combining data from multiple sources with your own formulas. Add them as widgets to any dashboard or report, and push them to other sub-accounts via snapshots.

Custom Metrics turn your dashboard into a calculator. Instead of exporting data to a spreadsheet to compute conversion rate, ROI, or cost per acquisition, you build the formula once and Sparkforge displays the result as a widget.

This feature is available on plans $497 and above.

What Custom Metrics do

You combine up to four metrics from different data sources, apply mathematical operators and constants, and pick how the result displays — integer, float, currency, or percentage. Custom Metrics work in dashboards, custom reports, and snapshots, so the same KPIs follow you wherever you report.

Build a Custom Metric

  1. Open Dashboard from the left menu.
  2. Click the Edit Dashboard icon (top right) to enter edit mode.
  3. Click Add Widget, then select the Custom Metrics tab.
  4. Click + Create Custom Metrics.
  5. Choose Start from scratch or Clone existing, then click Select.
  6. Fill in the metric details and formula (covered below).
  7. Click Create to save.

Metric details

  • Metric Name — A clear label like Revenue Growth Rate.
  • Data Type — Integer, Float, Percentage, or Currency.
  • Description — A short explanation so your team understands the KPI.

Formulas

The formula field combines metrics with operators (+, -, ×, ÷) and constants. Example: divide Won Opportunities by New Leads, multiply by 100, and display as a percentage to get a Conversion Rate.

Advanced settings: date properties

Each metric in your formula can have its own date property. The dropdown options change based on the metrics you picked. For a conversion rate measuring visits-to-bookings within the same window, match Page Views (Visited On) with Appointments (Created On).

Comparison value (trend direction)

Decide whether an increase or a decrease should display as a positive trend.

  • Increase is positive — Use for revenue, appointments, leads.
  • Decrease is positive — Use for response time, churn rate, complaint volume.

Set this incorrectly and your dashboards will mislead the team — marking longer response times as a positive trend, for example.

Reuse across sub-accounts

Custom Metrics can ride along in snapshots. Formulas stay intact when the destination sub-account has access to the same data sources and fields. Missing fields cause the metric to display but not calculate until they're mapped.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I combine metrics from sources with different date properties?
Yes. Each metric in the formula presents its own relevant date options. Pick the date property that matches the business outcome you want to measure.
What happens if I clone a metric and the source data changes?
Cloned metrics stay linked to the original sources and fields. If a field is removed, renamed, or its data type changes, the cloned metric may break. Edit the formula to remap the affected fields.
Do trend direction settings affect calculation?
No, only display. Trend direction controls whether dashboards show an increase as positive or negative — the underlying number is the same either way.
Will Custom Metrics survive a snapshot push?
Yes, as long as the receiving sub-account has the same data sources and fields. If those don't exist, the metric appears but won't calculate until they're mapped.
Which plans include Custom Metrics?
Custom Metrics are available on plans priced at $497 and above.
