How to Convert an Existing Sub-Account to SaaS Mode

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

From the sub-accounts list, pick Switch to SaaS, link or create the Stripe customer, choose a SaaS Configurator plan, and the plan activates the moment the client adds a payment method.

If you have sub-accounts that pre-date your SaaS Mode setup, they will not be billed automatically until you attach a SaaS plan. The process is built into the Sub-Accounts list and takes about two minutes per account once Stripe is connected.

How to convert a sub-account to SaaS Mode

  1. From your agency account, open the Sub-Accounts tab.
  2. Find the sub-account you want to convert.
  3. Click the three-dot menu in the lower right corner of the listing.
  4. Select Switch To SaaS.

Link or create the Stripe customer

You will be prompted to either link an existing Stripe customer or create a new one.

  • If the customer does not yet exist in Stripe: select Create New Customer in Stripe. Send the customer the payment link via SMS, email, or a copied URL. The client uploads their card.
  • If the customer already exists in Stripe: select Link Existing Customer in Stripe, search for the customer, select them, and click Proceed.

Pick a plan

You will see the SaaS Configurator plans you have set up. Sparkforge displays plan details so you can confirm what you are enabling. Click Show Full Details to review:

  • Rebilling rates (calls, SMS, email).
  • Add-ons included in the plan.
  • Marketplace apps included.
  • Custom menu links included.

Pick the plan and click Continue. The plan activates once the client adds a payment method. Until then it is on hold.

Important to know

  • A plan must be selected to activate SaaS mode — there is no "convert without a plan" option.
  • Activation is gated on payment method, not plan selection. Until the card is on file, the sub-account stays in hold state.
  • Legacy sub-accounts (created before SaaS Mode was enabled on the agency) require this manual conversion. They are not auto-converted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if the share link option is missing or not working?

Check that your browser is not blocking pop-ups. Try a different browser or clear cache. If it still fails, verify your account permissions for SaaS Mode and Stripe connection. Contact Sparkforge support if it persists.

Can I convert a sub-account with unpaid invoices?

Yes, the conversion still works. Resolve any outstanding balances first to avoid billing complications, but the technical process does not require a clean invoice ledger.

How do I track the conversion status?

Watch the sub-account's status in the Sub-Accounts list and verify in Stripe that the subscription was created. If the plan stays on hold, the customer has not added payment yet.

Can I attach a plan to a sub-account that pre-dates SaaS Mode?

Yes — that is exactly what this process does. Legacy sub-accounts are not auto-enrolled, so you assign a SaaS plan manually using the steps above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Stripe customer set up before converting?
No. The conversion flow can create a new Stripe customer or link an existing one. If you create new, Sparkforge generates a payment link the client uses to add their card.
When does the SaaS plan actually activate?
The plan activates the moment the client adds a payment method. Until then the sub-account stays in a hold state, even though you have selected the plan.
Can I switch a sub-account with pending invoices?
Yes. The technical conversion works regardless of invoice status. Best practice is to clear outstanding balances first to keep billing clean.
Are legacy sub-accounts auto-converted to SaaS Mode?
No. Sub-accounts created before SaaS Mode was set up have to be converted manually using Switch To SaaS. There is no bulk conversion.
What gets included with the plan and how do I confirm?
Click Show Full Details in the plan selection modal to see rebilling rates, included add-ons, marketplace apps, and custom menu links bundled with the plan.
