Capture External Form Submissions Automatically in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

External Tracking auto-detects forms on your external website (Gravity Forms, WPForms, Contact Form 7, custom HTML) and pipes submissions into Sparkforge in real time with no Zapier, webhook, or manual mapping required.

External Tracking is a lightweight script that connects activity on your external website to Sparkforge. It tracks page views and automatically captures form submissions from third-party sites without webhooks or custom integration code.

The tracking script scans the DOM for supported forms, so most modern form builders work the moment the script loads.

Key Benefits

  • Automatic form detection for Gravity Forms, WPForms, Contact Form 7, and custom HTML.
  • Real-time capture with no integration delay.
  • Automatic contact creation on every submission.
  • Smart field mapping against existing contact and custom fields.
  • Attribution from UTM parameters, page URLs, and session data.
  • Multi-form support on the same page, tracked independently.
  • Zero configuration — no Zapier or manual mapping.

Supported Forms

  • WordPress forms: Gravity Forms, WPForms, Contact Form 7
  • Custom HTML forms
  • No-code website builders

Forms embedded via iframes or third-party widgets are not supported.

Smart Field Mapping

  • Matches fields by name, label, and existing custom fields.
  • Stores unmapped fields safely for later use.
  • Handles text, dropdowns, checkboxes, dates, and more.
  • Shows only relevant fields in the UI.

How to Set Up External Tracking

Step 1: Get Your Tracking Script

  1. Go to Settings → External Tracking.
  2. Click Copy Script.

The script is unique to your account. Do not modify the tracking ID.

Step 2: Install the Script

Paste the script before the closing </body> tag on every page so forms are detected globally:

<script src="https://link.yourdomain.com/js/external-tracking.js" data-tracking-id="tk_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"></script>

The script works across WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Webflow, or any custom HTML site.

Step 3: Submit a Test Form

Submit a form on your site as a normal user would. The script auto-detects the form and captures every supported field with no extra config.

Step 4: View Submissions in Sparkforge

  1. Open Sites → Forms → Submissions.
  2. Filter by External Forms.

Each submission attaches to a contact record with full activity details for segmentation, automation, and follow-up.

Form Requirements

Detection works automatically when forms meet these basics:

  • A valid <form> HTML element
  • Fields with name attributes
  • An email field
  • Fields visible in the DOM

Not supported: iframe-based forms, popup widgets without real form elements, third-party scripts that hide inputs.

Workflow Triggers

  • Page View Trigger — fires when a visitor lands on a tracked page (even anonymously).
  • Form Submission Trigger — fires when a detected form is submitted.

Available filters: domain, page path, external form name, and UTM parameters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to configure anything after installing the script?
No. Form detection and submission tracking run automatically once the script is on the page.
Does this work with Gravity Forms and WPForms?
Yes. Most DOM-based WordPress forms are supported out of the box, including Gravity Forms, WPForms, and Contact Form 7.
Can multiple forms on the same page be tracked?
Yes. Each form on the page is detected and tracked independently.
Are iframe-based forms supported?
No. Only forms rendered directly in the DOM are supported.
What happens to unmapped fields?
They are stored safely with the submission and can be mapped or used in workflows later.
