Add Custom Fields to the Sparkforge Chat Widget Form
Add custom contact fields to the Sparkforge chat widget form to collect more than name, phone, email, and message. The widget supports up to 5 total fields across SMS, email, and WhatsApp.
The Sparkforge chat widget supports custom fields on its contact form, so you can collect more than the default name, phone, email, and message. This works across the SMS, email, and WhatsApp widget types.
What you can add
Custom fields sit alongside the standard fields and use these data types:
- Single line text
- Multi-line text
- Monetary
- Numeric
- Phone
- Date picker
- Dropdown (single)
Standard fields
The widget keeps the existing standard fields:
- Name (mandatory)
- Phone or Email — at least one is required to create the contact. Phone is the default if you try to remove both.
- Message
Field limits and rules
You can have up to 5 fields total, including standard and custom. Standard fields stay mandatory whenever they are added.
Required field behavior
- Mark any custom field as required in the widget builder.
- Required fields show an asterisk (*) on the form.
- Visitors cannot submit until every required field is filled.
Required-field enforcement applies when a visitor starts a chat through the contact form, and when an agent requests details mid-conversation.
Validation
- Phone: validated against the selected country code.
- Email: validated for correct format.
- Existing widgets stay unchanged unless you mark fields as required.
Multiple phone fields
If you add two or more phone fields, the widget shows a country code selector. Only one country flag applies to all phone fields — changing the flag in one field updates the others.
How to add custom fields
- Open the chat widget builder.
- Edit the contact form.
- Add a custom field and pick its data type.
- Toggle Required if visitors must complete it.
- Save and publish the widget.
