Add Post-Checkout Upsells to Your Sparkforge Store

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge stores let you raise average order value with post-checkout upsells. Build a dedicated Upsell page, drop in the Upsell element, point your checkout at it, and route buyers to the Thank You page when they accept or skip.

Post-checkout upsells let your Sparkforge store offer one or more extra products after a customer completes the main purchase. Each upsell that converts creates a separate order, and buyers who decline are routed to the Thank You page.

How the upsell flow works

  1. The customer completes checkout on your store page.
  2. Sparkforge redirects them to a dedicated Upsell page you build.
  3. The Upsell element offers a product (or several products in columns).
  4. If they buy, a new order is created and they continue to the Thank You page.
  5. If they skip, a button you place on the page sends them to the Thank You page directly.

Build the Upsell page

  1. In your store, create a new page for the upsell. Adding the Upsell element to the existing checkout page will throw an error.
  2. Add a full-width section and a row inside it.
  3. Click Add Element and drag the Upsell element into the row. Add multiple Upsell elements across columns if you want to offer more than one product.

Configure the Upsell element

  • Product: search and select the product to offer.
  • Sale Action: choose where the Buy Now click sends the customer — either to another upsell page or to the Thank You page.
  • Shipping: use the toggle in the builder preview to enable or disable shipping charges per Upsell element. With shipping enabled, buyers pick a rate from a dropdown.

Add a skip path

Place a button on the Upsell page with its Button Action set to the Thank You page. Without this, customers are forced to buy an upsell to continue — not a great experience.

Point checkout at the new page

On the Checkout page, set Sale Action to Go to page and pick your new Upsell page as the Website Page. After this, every successful checkout lands on the upsell offer.

Notes

  • The Upsell element must live on a page that loads after checkout. Adding it before checkout breaks the flow.
  • An accepted upsell creates a separate order, not an addition to the original one.
  • Always include a skip path. Otherwise customers are blocked from reaching the Thank You page without buying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I offer more than one upsell on the same page?
Yes. Drop multiple Upsell elements into different columns within a row, each tied to its own product.
Does the upsell get added to the original order?
No. An accepted upsell creates a separate order in Sparkforge.
What happens if a customer wants to skip the upsell?
They click the skip button you added to the Upsell page, which routes them straight to the Thank You page. Without that button, they are stuck on the upsell page until they buy.
Can I charge different shipping for upsell products?
Yes. Each Upsell element has its own shipping toggle. When enabled, buyers select a shipping rate from a dropdown on the upsell.
Why does the checkout error when I add the Upsell element to it?
The Upsell element only works on a page that loads after checkout completes. Build a separate Upsell page and route checkout to it using the Sale Action setting.
