Set Up Abandoned Cart Emails in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge automatically emails customers who start checkout, enter their email, but don't complete the purchase. Configure the template, subject, and delay under Payments > Settings > Notifications.

When a customer adds items, starts checkout, types their email, and then abandons the purchase, Sparkforge can automatically email them a link back to their cart. The feature is on by default and runs in the background — no manual work to recover sales you'd otherwise lose.

How abandoned cart recovery works

The system detects when a checkout starts but doesn't finish. After a configurable delay, it sends a follow-up email with a link to the abandoned cart. The customer can resume from any device, browser, or session.

How the cart link behaves

  • Cross-device: works on phone, tablet, and desktop.
  • One link per cart: each URL represents a single abandoned session.
  • View-only: shoppers can't add new items from the link.
  • Live pricing: product names and prices update at open time.
  • Inventory aware: out-of-stock items show a Remove option.
  • Guest support: guest shoppers get a temporary session to complete checkout.
  • Fallback: if all items are deleted, the page shows a Continue Shopping CTA.

Configure abandoned cart notifications

All settings live at the sub-account level under Payments.

  1. Go to Payments in the left nav.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Select Notifications from the left menu.
  4. Toggle on Enable Abandoned Cart emails.
  5. Choose an Email Template from the dropdown — default or a custom one you built.
  6. Set the Email Subject. Action-driven subject lines outperform generic ones.
  7. Set Send after — the delay before the email goes out. Default is 10 hours.

Customize the email template

The default template works but won't match your brand. Build your own under Marketing > Emails > Templates.

  1. Open Templates in Email Marketing.
  2. Click + New for a fresh template, or open an existing one.
  3. In the editor, click the custom value icon to insert ecommerce fields like {{ ecom_checkout_page_url }}.
  4. Choose Ecommerce from the custom value menu to find Checkout page URL and Product list page URL.

Add a dynamic cart preview

The Shopping Cart element renders the abandoned items — names, prices, quantities, images — directly in the email. Drag it from the ecommerce elements panel into your template. It auto-populates when the system has captured cart data, which requires the customer to have reached the checkout page and entered an email.

FAQ

Can I disable abandoned checkout emails?

Yes. Toggle them off under Payments > Settings > Notifications.

Does this work for funnel or website order forms?

No. Automatic abandoned cart emails apply only to Store checkouts under Payments. For funnel and website order forms, build a workflow that tracks form visits and follows up if no payment is recorded.

What if the customer doesn't enter an email?

No notification fires. Sparkforge needs an email address to trigger recovery.

Can I send multiple reminders per abandoned cart?

Currently only one automated reminder per abandoned cart is supported.

Can I send SMS instead of email?

Not from this setting. Build a custom workflow if you want SMS-based recovery.
