Migrate a Shopify Store to Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Connect Shopify to Sparkforge with an Admin API access token to import products, collections, contacts, orders, and transactions, then keep new data flowing with sync settings and order/payment workflow triggers.

The Shopify integration lets you migrate an existing Shopify store into Sparkforge — products, collections, contacts, orders, transactions — then keep the two sides in sync. Once connected, you can also build Sparkforge automations on Order Submitted and Payment Received triggers from Shopify.

Before you start: create a Shopify custom app

Sparkforge connects via a Shopify custom app and an Admin API access token. Set this up first.

  1. Sign in to Shopify and click Apps in the dashboard.
  2. Click Develop apps.
  3. If prompted, click Allow custom app development twice to enable the feature.
  4. Click Create an app, give it a name (for example, Sparkforge Sync), select your email as the developer, and click Create app.
  5. Click Configure Admin API scopes and enable the following read scopes:
    • read_orders
    • read_customers
    • read_products
    • read_inventory
  6. Save the app and generate the Admin API access token. Copy it.

Connect Shopify to Sparkforge

  1. In your sub-account, go to Settings > Integration > Shopify.
  2. Click Connect.
  3. Paste the Admin API access token and your Shopify store URL.
  4. On the Import Elements screen, pick what to import: contacts, orders, transactions, products, collections.
  5. On the Sync Settings screen, pick what should keep flowing: contacts, orders, transactions, Order Submitted trigger, Payment Received trigger, products, collections.
  6. Click Save. Import and sync run in the background — large stores can take time.

Manage and reimport

After connecting, return to Settings > Integration > Shopify to toggle individual sync elements on or off. To reimport, disconnect and reconnect — you can pick the import options again, including any data you skipped the first time.

Find your store name

If you don't remember your Shopify store name, log in to Shopify and look at the URL. The store name is the segment to the right of store/. For example, in https://admin.shopify.com/store/ef760-ef, the store name is ef760-ef.

Notes and limits

  • Taxes are not mapped on imported or synced products.
  • One transaction per order is created in Sparkforge, even when Shopify records multiple.
  • Order statuses sync as Completed or Cancelled.
  • Merged Shopify contacts update the primary contact in Sparkforge.
  • If a product has default Shopify SEO (no overrides), the SEO fields come through as null.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why aren't my contacts syncing from Shopify?
Shopify's Basic plan no longer exposes customer PII (names, emails, addresses, phone numbers) through the Admin API or webhooks. Without that data, Sparkforge can't create contacts. Upgrade Shopify to Grow, Advanced, or Plus to sync contacts, orders, and transactions.
What can I sync on the Shopify Basic plan?
Products and collections only. Contacts, orders, and transactions require Shopify Grow, Advanced, or Plus because of the API restrictions on the Basic plan.
It used to work — why did contact sync stop?
Shopify deprecated the older API that allowed PII access on all plans. The new API restricts customer data on Basic, and webhook responses no longer include those fields. Upgrade the Shopify plan to restore full sync.
How do I reimport data I missed during setup?
Open Settings > Integration > Shopify, disconnect the integration, and reconnect. On reconnection you can pick import options again, including elements you skipped the first time.
Where do I find the Admin API access token?
Inside the Shopify custom app you created. After configuring the read scopes (orders, customers, products, inventory) and installing the app on your store, Shopify generates the Admin API access token. Copy it and paste it into Sparkforge.
