How to Read Workflow Execution Logs and Enrollment History

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Execution Logs show exactly which actions ran for each contact, while Enrollment History tracks the contact's path through the workflow. Both now support pagination, error highlighting, and a Highlight Contact Path overlay on the canvas.

Execution Logs and Enrollment History are how you debug a workflow without guessing. Recent updates make it faster to spot errors, jump from a conversation to the exact execution that triggered it, and visualize the path each contact took.

Where to find them

  1. Open Automations > Workflows.
  2. Open the workflow you want to inspect.
  3. Click Execution Logs.

Faster path: jump in from a conversation

  1. Open Conversations and the impacted message.
  2. Open message details.
  3. Under Workflow, click the workflow link.
  4. Sparkforge opens Execution Logs with the right contact and execution preselected.

Execution Logs improvements

  • View Details hyperlink: Replaces the old icon, easier to spot.
  • Error highlighting: The Status field or View Details link is highlighted on rows with errors.
  • Row highlighting: The currently expanded row is visually marked so you do not lose your place.
  • Action column: Shows the Action Name you assigned. Hover to see the underlying action type.
  • Filter sorting: Actions used in the current workflow appear first; other actions are listed separately.
  • Pagination: 10, 25, or 50 rows per page on both Execution Logs and Enrollment History.

New enrollment statuses

  • Workflow Completed: Contact reached the end naturally.
  • Removed by Workflow Action: Removed by an action in this workflow.
  • Removed by External Workflow Action: Removed by an action in a different workflow.
  • Removed by - Snapshot Refresh: A snapshot refresh deleted a step the contact was waiting on. Sparkforge removes those contacts so they do not get stuck.

Contact merges in Execution Logs

When contacts are merged, Execution Logs include a Contact Merge entry. Example: a live chat Guest enters a follow-up workflow, then later gets merged into an existing contact. The workflow continues under the master contact and the merge is recorded in the timeline.

Highlight Contact Path

Click the Highlight Contact Path icon in either tab to open the builder with the contact's path drawn on the canvas:

  • Error nodes are highlighted.
  • Skipped nodes show which steps the contact bypassed.
  • Entry and exit indicators show where the contact entered and exited.
  • In-progress markers show contacts still moving through the workflow.

Go To Action

From an execution row, click Go To Action to open that action directly in the builder with the action sidebar open. Make your fix without re-navigating.

Date and time changes

  • Date format: MMM-DD (e.g., Oct-21). Hover the date to see the full time.
  • Timezone: The Executed On field now shows the timezone the action ran in.
  • Custom date range: Up to 30 days, with start and end times, in addition to presets like Today and Yesterday.

Contact History and Execution History

Click View Contact History on a row to see every action across every enrollment that contact has had in the workflow. Click View Execution History to see the steps for one specific enrollment. Breadcrumbs at the top are clickable so you can jump back to the logs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Execution Logs and Enrollment History?
Execution Logs show which actions ran for each contact. Enrollment History tracks how each contact entered, progressed through, and exited the workflow.
How do I see exactly which path a contact took through the workflow?
Click the Highlight Contact Path icon. The builder opens with the contact's route drawn on the canvas, including errors, skipped steps, and entry and exit indicators.
What does 'Removed by - Snapshot Refresh' mean?
A snapshot refresh deleted a step the contact was waiting on. Sparkforge removes the contact from the workflow so they do not stall on a step that no longer exists.
Can I jump straight to the workflow execution from a conversation?
Yes. Open the message in Conversations, open message details, and click the workflow link. Execution Logs opens with the right contact and execution preselected.
What is the maximum custom date range for logs?
30 days. You can pick a custom start and end date with time, or use presets like Today and Yesterday.
