How to Decouple Owners for Contacts and Opportunities
Sparkforge can assign one owner to a contact and a different owner to that contact's opportunities. Turn on the setting in your sub-account and choose whether follower changes should sync between the two.
By default, the owner of a contact is also the owner of every opportunity tied to that contact. If marketing nurtures the lead and sales closes the deal, that single-owner model gets in the way. The decouple setting lets you split ownership.
Enable separate owners
- Open Settings in your sub-account.
- Find Allow different owners for contacts and its opportunities.
- Toggle it On.
How it behaves once enabled
Contacts and their opportunities can now have different owners.
- Default opportunity owner. New opportunities still default to the contact's owner. You can override that on creation or any time after.
- Workflow action (coming soon). A future workflow action will let you set or change opportunity owner from automation.
Optional sub-settings
- Update contact follower when opportunity owner changes. When a deal switches owners, the new owner is automatically added as a follower on the contact so they see the full history.
- Update opportunity follower when contact owner changes. When the contact switches owners, that owner gets added as a follower on the opportunity.
When this is useful
Different owners for contacts and opportunities makes sense when one team owns the relationship and another team owns the revenue — common in real estate teams, agencies, and any business where SDRs hand off to closers.
