Asana Actions and Triggers in Sparkforge Workflows

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge has native Asana actions and triggers in Workflows. Create, update, and find tasks from a workflow, or fire a workflow when Asana events happen — no Zapier or webhook plumbing required.

The Asana integration lets Sparkforge Workflows talk to Asana directly. Create or update tasks from a workflow, fire workflows when Asana events happen, and keep CRM and project work in sync without third-party glue.

Why use it

  • Real-time sync: Asana events fire workflows the moment they happen via webhooks.
  • Fewer mistakes: automated task creation removes copy-paste errors.
  • Lower cost: no Zapier, Make, or n8n bridges to maintain.
  • Cross-tool consistency: keep ClickUp, Airtable, Slack, email, and CRM fields aligned with project state.

Triggers (Asana → Workflows)

TriggerFires when
Task CreatedA new task is created in Asana
Task UpdatedAn existing task is updated
Project CreatedA new project is created
Comment on TaskA comment is added to a task
New UserA new user joins your Asana workspace
Tag Added to TaskA tag is added (coming soon)
Task Moved to SectionA task moves between sections
New AttachmentAn attachment is added to a task
New SubtaskA subtask is created (coming soon)

Actions (Workflows → Asana)

  • Create Task — create a new task in Asana
  • Update Task — update an existing task
  • Find Task by ID — look up by Asana Task ID
  • Find Task — look up by task name
  • Find Task in Project — search inside a specific project
  • Find All Tasks from the Project — fetch every task in a project
  • Create Subtask — add a subtask under an existing task
  • Add Task to Section — move a task into a section
  • Create Section — add a new section to a project
  • Create Comment/Story — comment on a task
  • Find Comment from Task — retrieve task comments
  • Find Project / Find Section — resolve IDs by name
  • Create Project — create a new Asana project

Getting started

  1. In the workflow builder, search for an Asana trigger or action (e.g., "Create Task," "Task Created").
  2. If your Asana account isn't connected yet, click Connect Now and sign in with OAuth.
  3. Choose a trigger, name it, and click Test Trigger to fetch a sample task.
  4. Reference dynamic fields (task name, assignee, due date) in downstream actions.

Recommendation: filter Task Updated triggers

Asana can emit multiple events for one update because changing one field cascades. Add a Fields Changed filter so the workflow only runs when the specific fields you care about change.

Common use cases

Auto-create tasks from new leads

  • Trigger: Contact Created
  • Action: Create Task in Asana — "New Lead: {{contact.name}}" assigned to the sales team, with a follow-up comment.

Sync projects across tools

  • Trigger: Project Created (Asana)
  • Actions: Create Project in ClickUp or Update Record in Airtable, plus an internal notification.

Notify on task updates

  • Trigger: Task Updated (Asana)
  • Actions: Send Slack or email notification, update a contact tag, push status to other tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Asana triggers instant or polled?
Instant. They run via webhooks, so workflows fire the moment the Asana event happens.
Can I sync data both ways?
The current integration is one-way per direction — either Asana triggering Sparkforge, or Sparkforge acting in Asana. Build paired workflows if you need round-trip sync.
Do I need a paid Asana plan?
No. The integration works with free and paid Asana plans. Some advanced Asana features (multiple projects, guest access) may still require a paid Asana tier on their side.
Are Asana actions and triggers billed?
Yes. They count as premium actions and triggers at your plan's standard automation rates.
Can I create subtasks and comments from a workflow?
Yes. Use the Create Subtask and Create Comment/Story actions in the workflow builder.
