The Opportunity Status Changed trigger runs a workflow when an opportunity moves between statuses (Open, Won, Lost, etc.). Filter by pipeline, stage, lead value, tags, or assigned owner.

The Opportunity Status Changed trigger fires a workflow when an opportunity in your CRM moves between statuses — Open, Won, Lost, Abandoned, etc. It is the workhorse trigger for sales handoffs, invoicing kickoffs, and lost-deal follow-up.

What the trigger does

Whenever an opportunity's status changes, the workflow evaluates the configured filters and runs if they match. You can scope by pipeline, stage, lead value, tags, assigned user, source status, and target status.

Why use it

  • Real-time sales alerts — notify the team the moment a deal closes or stalls.
  • Less manual ops — auto-update CRM fields and kick off downstream tasks.
  • Targeted routing — filter by pipeline and stage for clean, precise automation.
  • Faster handoffs — invoicing, fulfillment, and onboarding start the moment status changes.

Configure the trigger

  1. Open the workflow builder — Automation section in Sparkforge.
  2. Add the trigger — click + Add New Trigger and pick Opportunity Status Changed.
  3. Name it — something like Opportunity Won Notification.
  4. Configure filters — see the table below.
  5. Save and test — run sample data through, then flip the Publish toggle.

Available filters

FilterUse
Assigned ToLimit to opportunities owned by a specific user or team.
TagMatch by tag using Equals to / Not equals to / Any of / None of. Stack multiple Tag filters for advanced include/exclude logic.
In PipelineLimit to opportunities in a specific pipeline.
Lead ValueSet minimum or maximum opportunity value.
Moved From StatusOriginal status before the change.
Moved To StatusNew status after the change.
Pipeline StageSpecific stage within a pipeline.

Use cases

Closed-won notification

Filter: Moved From Status = Negotiation, Moved To Status = Closed Won. The workflow congratulates the rep, kicks invoicing to finance, and updates the CRM.

Lost-deal follow-up

Filter: Tag = High Priority, Moved To Status = Lost. The workflow emails the prospect for feedback and pings the account manager.

Pipeline stage handoff

Filter: In Pipeline = Enterprise Deals, Pipeline Stage = In Review. The workflow notifies the sales manager and assigns a review task.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the trigger fire for every status change?
Yes — any change in status is evaluated. Use Moved From and Moved To filters to scope to specific transitions.
Can I trigger only on status changes within one pipeline?
Yes. Set the In Pipeline filter to limit the trigger to a single pipeline.
How do tag filters with Any of / None of work?
Tag filters now support multi-select operators. Any of fires if the opportunity has at least one of the listed tags. None of fires if it has none. Stack multiple Tag filters for compound logic.
Does the trigger fire on automatic status changes?
Yes. Whether the change comes from a user, an automation, or an API call, the trigger fires.
