Forwarding Incoming SMS Notifications in Sparkforge with a Workflow
Inbound SMS only appears in the Conversation tab. To get a forwarded notification too, create a workflow with a Customer Replied trigger filtered on SMS, then add a Send Internal Notification action with the message.body custom value.
Sparkforge delivers all inbound SMS to the Conversations tab — that's the source of truth. To also push incoming texts as a notification to a phone, email, or team member, build a workflow.
Note: SMS notifications generate per-message charges, so this approach costs more than reading messages directly in Conversations.
How to forward incoming SMS as notifications
- Create a workflow. Go to Automation > Workflows > Create Workflow.
- Start from scratch. Click Start from Scratch, then Create New Workflow.
- Add a trigger. Click Add New Workflow Trigger.
- Select Customer Replied. Pick Customer Replied as the trigger.
- Filter by reply channel. Click Add Filters, choose Reply Channel, then select SMS.
- Save the trigger.
- Add an action. Click Please select action, then choose Send Internal Notification.
- Insert the message body. Use Custom Values > Message > Message Body (
{{message.body}}) so the notification contains the actual SMS text. - Personalize. Add Custom Values > Contact > First Name so the notification shows who texted in.
Save and publish the workflow. The next inbound SMS will hit the Conversation tab and trigger the notification you configured.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why doesn't the mobile app push inbound SMS like a regular text?
Sparkforge routes all inbound SMS through the Conversations system so it lives with the contact record. To get a phone-style notification, build a Customer Replied workflow with Send Internal Notification.
Will I be charged for the forwarded notification?
Yes. Each Send Internal Notification SMS counts as an outbound SMS and is billed at standard rates. Email or in-app notifications avoid SMS charges.
Can I limit the workflow to specific numbers or hours?
Yes. Add filters on the Customer Replied trigger to scope by tags, contact custom fields, or business hours. Combine multiple filters to control exactly when the notification fires.
Can I include the customer's name in the notification?
Yes. Insert Contact > First Name as a custom value alongside Message > Message Body so the notification shows both who texted and what they said.
