How to Send Gift Cards to Customers in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

The Send flow issues a prepaid gift card to a contact without collecting payment. Deliver via email, SMS, PDF, or QR code, schedule for a future date, and track every issued card under Gift Card Orders.

Sending a gift card creates a one-time prepaid credit and delivers it to a recipient by email, SMS, PDF, or QR code — without a checkout. Use it for loyalty rewards, service recovery, VIP perks, holiday gifting, and internal QA.

Before you start

  • A Gift Card product exists and is Active (not Deactivated or Archived).
  • The recipient contact has either an email address or a phone number.
  • The Send flow runs in Live Mode only — cards delivered are real and redeemable.

Send a gift card

  1. Open the gift card. Go to Payments → Gift Cards, pick the card, and click Send.
  2. Choose the recipient. Pick an existing contact or add a new one, then continue.
  3. Add a personal message. Write your own, pick from pre-populated messages, or use Write with AI.
  4. Pick a denomination from the values configured for the product.
  5. Pick a delivery method. Only options the contact supports are enabled: Email, SMS, QR Code (via email), or PDF (via email).
  6. Set delivery date. Send immediately, tomorrow, in a week, or a future date. If the card has an expiry, the date must fall before it.
  7. Review and send. Confirm the email/SMS preview — amount, message, expiry, redemption instructions, artwork — then click Send Gift Card.

Delivery methods

Email

Full visual gift card with artwork, expiry, balance, and redemption link. Best default for most cases.

SMS

Clean text message with the gift card link. Artwork is omitted because of SMS formatting limits.

PDF (via email)

Downloadable printable PDF — useful for in-store gifting, physical wrapping, or events.

QR Code (via email)

Scannable QR opens the gift card. Useful for in-person events.

What happens after sending

The card appears under Payments → Gift Cards → Gift Card Orders with recipient details, delivery method, timestamp, denomination, expiry, remaining balance, status (Scheduled, Active, Inactive), and a hidden code. Sent cards do not show up under Payments → Orders because no transaction was created.

Limits to know

  • One gift card to one customer per Send flow.
  • Live Mode only.
  • Templates are system-generated and currently not editable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I send gift cards in Test Mode?
Not yet. The Send flow runs in Live Mode only. Test Mode support is on the roadmap.
Why can I not send a card to certain contacts?
The contact needs a valid email or phone number. Without one, no delivery method is available.
Can I send multiple gift cards at once?
Not yet. The current flow sends one card to one customer at a time. Bulk sending is planned.
Can a scheduled card be redeemed before its delivery date?
Yes. If someone has the code, redemption works at checkout even before the scheduled delivery time.
Where do sent gift cards show up?
Only under Gift Card Orders. They do not appear in Payments → Orders because no payment was collected.
