To show Tax IDs on every Sparkforge invoice, store the client’s ID in a Custom Field on the contact and your business Tax ID in a Custom Value, then map both into the default invoice layout.

To show your business Tax ID under business details and the client’s Tax ID under contact details on every Sparkforge invoice, you set up two pieces of data — a Custom Field for the client’s ID and a Custom Value for your business ID — and then map them into the default invoice layout.

Step 1: Create the data points

Custom Field for the client’s Tax ID

  1. Open Settings in the left pane.
  2. Under Other Settings, click Custom Fields and select + Add Field.
  3. Under Text Input, choose Single Line and click Next.
  4. Name the field Tax ID (or your preferred label). Set Object and Group to Contact.
  5. Click Save.

Custom Value for your business Tax ID

  1. Return to Settings → Other Settings → Custom Values.
  2. Click + Custom Value.
  3. Enter the name (for example, VAT ID) and the value (for example, 1234).
  4. Click Create.

Step 2: Add both IDs to the invoice layout

  1. Go to Payments → Invoices & Estimates → Settings.
  2. Under Title, Terms and Layout, scroll to Invoice Layout and click Customize Layout.
  3. For the business Tax ID: in the Layout tab under Business Information, click + Add Custom Value and select Business Tax ID (or your custom value name).
  4. For the client Tax ID: under Contact Information, click + Add Custom Field and select Tax ID.
  5. Confirm the preview and click Save changes.

Step 3: Add the Tax ID to each contact

  1. Open Contacts and click the contact.
  2. Open the Additional info tab.
  3. Enter the contact’s Tax ID and save.

From Actions → Create Invoice (or Payments → Create Invoice), the new invoice automatically includes the contact’s Tax ID and your business Tax ID in the right sections.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the business Tax ID appear on the invoice?
Under the Business Information section at the top of the invoice, alongside your business name and address.
Where does the client Tax ID appear?
Under the Contact Information section, next to the client’s name and address — wherever your invoice layout places contact details.
What if a contact doesn’t have a Tax ID stored?
The Tax ID line stays blank for that invoice. The layout only renders the field when a value exists.
Can I use a different label than “Tax ID”?
Yes. Name the Custom Field and Custom Value whatever fits your jurisdiction — VAT ID, GST Number, ABN, EIN, and so on.
