How to Build Personality Quizzes with Highest and Lowest Categories

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Group quiz questions into categories (styles, archetypes, skills), assign scores per answer, then add an Individual Category section on the Result Page set to Highest or Lowest. Sparkforge picks the winning category and renders it with dynamic tags.

Personality-style quizzes group questions into categories — styles, archetypes, skill areas. Each answer adds points. When a quiz is submitted, Sparkforge totals the points and shows the highest or lowest scoring category on the Result Page.

Why this format works

  • Clear outcomes: one category becomes the user's "type."
  • Personalization: pull custom fields and dynamic values into the result.
  • Storytelling: the rich text editor handles headings, lists, and links.
  • Automation-ready: branch follow-up workflows by category.
  • Higher engagement: add GIFs, videos, and CTA buttons to any quiz page.

How to build a personality quiz

Step 1: Open or create a quiz

Go to Sites → Quizzes → + Add Quiz, or open an existing quiz.

Step 2: Create categories

Click Manage Categories in the top-left and add your categories (for example, archetypes or skill areas).

Step 3: Assign categories and scores

For each question, open the Options panel on the right. Under each answer, set a Category and a Score.

Step 4: Build the Result Page

Move to the Result Page editor. Available sections:

  • Header: title, logo, business name toggle.
  • Overall Score: percentage (with optional Low/Medium/High ranges), actual score, or out-of-10.
  • Category Score: breakdown across all categories in your chosen format.
  • Individual Category: shows only the highest or lowest scoring category.
  • Call to Action: button (Subscribe, Book a Call, etc.).
  • Footer: disclaimer, copyright, links.

Step 5: Show highest or lowest category

  1. On the Result Page, click + Add Section.
  2. Choose Individual Category.
  3. In the section settings, pick Highest Category or Lowest Category.
  4. Insert dynamic tags from the editor:
    • {{quiz_tags.highest_category_name}}
    • {{quiz_tags.highest_category_score}}
    • {{quiz_tags.lowest_category_name}}
    • {{quiz_tags.lowest_category_score}}

Example copy:

  • Highest: "Your strongest area is {{quiz_tags.highest_category_name}} ({{quiz_tags.highest_category_score}}%)."
  • Lowest: "Your weakest area is {{quiz_tags.lowest_category_name}} ({{quiz_tags.lowest_category_score}}%)."

Step 6: Add score ranges (optional)

On the Overall Score or Category Score sections, configure tiers:

  • Low = 0–40%
  • Medium = 41–70%
  • High = 71–100%

Add a different message per tier (encouragement, recommendations, next steps).

Step 7: Save and preview

Click Save, then use Preview to walk through the quiz and confirm:

  • Scores calculate correctly.
  • Highest and lowest categories render as expected.
  • Messages and CTAs land in the right places.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I insert dynamic tags?
Use the tag picker in the rich text editor. You can insert Quiz Tags, Contact fields, Custom Values, and timestamp tags.
Can I send different emails based on the persona result?
Yes. Build workflows with the Quiz Submitted trigger, branch by category, and send tailored emails for each persona.
Can I show both the highest and the lowest category on the same result page?
Yes. Add two Individual Category sections — one set to Highest and one to Lowest. You can also pair Highest with the Category Score section to show the full breakdown.
Can I mix personality scoring with overall percentages?
Yes. The Individual Category section handles the persona outcome and the Overall Score section handles the total percent. Both can sit on the same Result Page.
Can I add CTAs to the result?
Yes. The Call to Action section adds a button (Subscribe, Book a Call, etc.) inline with the quiz result.
