How to Check Twilio Logs for a Specific Text Message
If your sub-account is on its own Twilio, use Twilio Messaging Logs to confirm delivery status, segment count, and error codes. Search by phone number in the FROM or TO field, then open the message detail to see delivery steps and request inspector data.
When SMS through your own Twilio account fails, delays, or behaves oddly, the Twilio Messaging Logs are the first place to look. They confirm delivery status, surface error codes, and give you the Message SID you need to escalate to Twilio support.
Step 1: Log in to Twilio
Go to https://console.twilio.com/ and sign in with the credentials tied to your Twilio parent account.
Step 2: Open the right subaccount
Click Account in the top bar, then Subaccounts. If you have many subaccounts, copy the Account SID from your Sparkforge sub-account agency-level Twilio settings, then paste it into the Twilio subaccount search.
Step 3: Open Messaging Logs
In the left panel choose Monitor > Logs > Messaging.
Step 4: Search by phone number
Enter the contact number with no formatting:
- FROM field: incoming SMS sent by the contact to your Twilio number.
- TO field: outgoing SMS sent from Twilio to the contact.
Step 5: Read the log entries
Each row includes:
- Message SID (unique identifier)
- TO and FROM numbers
- Status (accepted, delivered, failed, etc.)
- Segments (parts the SMS was split into)
- Media (if MMS was attached)
Yellow or red rows mean a problem. Green and a 200 status mean success. If a message shows delivered but the contact never got it, copy the Message SID and open a Twilio support ticket.
Step 6: Open message details
Click the message date to expand details:
- Delivery Steps show creation time, queue time, and carrier handoff.
- Request Inspector shows requests and responses between Twilio and the webhook endpoint, with color-coded statuses. A 404 typically means a missing webhook tunnel.
Check MMS capability of the Twilio number
- Open Explore Products > Phone Numbers.
- Confirm whether the number supports MMS or only domestic SMS.
