How to Use the New Affiliate Sale Trigger in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

The New Affiliate Sale trigger fires on every affiliate sale — one-time, recurring, or manual. Filter by affiliate, campaign, payout method, or tax form to run targeted workflows like reminders, congrats messages, customer tags, or internal alerts.

The New Affiliate Sale trigger in Workflows runs an automation every time an affiliate closes a sale. It works for one-time, recurring, and manually tracked transactions.

What you can do with it

  • Send the affiliate a congrats message
  • Notify the customer
  • Tag or segment the customer record
  • Assign a follow-up task
  • Alert your internal team

Important: who the workflow runs on

Workflows always run on a primary record. The New Affiliate Sale trigger usually starts on the buyer/customer side, so default actions like Send Email or Send SMS will message the buyer — not the affiliate — unless you choose an affiliate-specific action.

To message the affiliate, use actions designed for affiliate communication (for example, Send Email to Affiliate). Note: Send Email to Affiliate sends an internal alert to the business about the sale; it does not email the affiliate directly.

Filters

  • Affiliate filter — target specific affiliates
  • Campaign filter — fire only for sales tied to selected campaigns
  • Payout method check — branch on whether the affiliate has a payout method on file
  • Tax form check — branch on whether the affiliate has submitted tax forms

How to set it up

  1. Go to Automations > Workflows.
  2. Click Create New Workflow or open an existing one.
  3. Add a trigger and search for New Affiliate Sale.
  4. Apply optional filters (affiliate, campaign, payout method, tax form).
  5. Add actions — email, SMS, task, tag, or affiliate-specific.
  6. Click Save.

Common use cases

Internal alert on every affiliate sale

Add an Internal Notification action so your team gets pinged when a partner closes a sale.

Remind affiliates to add payout info

Use the payout method filter to fire only when the affiliate has not added a payout method, then send a reminder: "Add your PayPal to receive your commission."

Tag customers from affiliate sales

Add a tag like Affiliate Customer to the buyer's contact record so you can segment them in future campaigns.

Known limitation

The trigger does not switch the workflow's primary record to the affiliate mid-flow. If you need to grant community points or run actions that target the affiliate's user record, build a separate workflow that runs on the affiliate's record and apply Grant community group leaderboard points there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the trigger fire for recurring affiliate sales?
Yes. It fires for one-time, recurring, and manually tracked sales.
If I add a Send Email action, who gets the email?
The buyer, because the workflow runs on the buyer's record by default. To message the affiliate, use an affiliate-specific action or build a separate workflow that runs on the affiliate's record.
Can I trigger a different workflow for each campaign?
Yes. Use the campaign filter on the trigger to limit it to specific campaigns, then build separate workflows per campaign.
How do I remind affiliates without payout info?
Set the payout method filter to fire only when no payout method is on file, then send a reminder via affiliate communication actions.
Can community leaderboard points be granted in the same workflow?
Not reliably from the buyer-side workflow. Build a second workflow that runs on the affiliate's user record and grant points there.
