Enable Tap to Pay on a Whitelabel Mobile App

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Tap to Pay on iPhone needs an Apple entitlement, distribution approval, and a Stripe or Square PSP. Android requires no Apple-style approval. POS module must be enabled in the Mobile App Customizer first.

This guide walks through enabling Tap to Pay on your Sparkforge whitelabel mobile app, on both iOS and Android. Tap to Pay lets merchants accept contactless cards, Apple Pay, and digital wallets directly on the phone with no extra hardware.

Before you start

  • You need an organization-level Apple Developer account with Account Holder access.
  • Tap to Pay on iPhone supports Stripe or Square as the payment service provider (PSP).
  • Apple reviews entitlement and distribution requests individually before granting approval.
  • Android does not require Apple-style approval. The flow is shorter.
  • Enable the POS module in the Mobile App Customizer before starting. The rest of the steps depend on it.

iOS setup overview

  1. Request the Tap to Pay on iPhone entitlement from Apple.
  2. Wait for Apple to add the entitlement to your developer account.
  3. Submit Apple's distribution requirements (demo video, checklist).
  4. Wait for Apple to grant distribution approval.
  5. Push an app update through Sparkforge to ship Tap to Pay live.

Step 1: Request the entitlement

Sign in as the Account Holder on your Apple Developer account, then open the Tap to Pay on iPhone Entitlement Request Form. Complete every field and select Stripe or Square as your PSP.

Merchant onboarding (what to describe to Apple)

  • The main account owner adds merchants as sub-accounts in the Sparkforge web app.
  • Each merchant connects Stripe or Square through the web interface.
  • Merchants then sign in to the mobile app with sub-account credentials and accept payments into their own Stripe account.

Step 2: Apple adds the entitlement

Once approved, the Tap to Pay entitlement appears under Managed Capabilities in your developer account. Notify your Sparkforge account representative so they can move forward.

Step 3: Submit distribution requirements

After the entitlement is added, the Apple team requests a demo video and a requirement checklist. Submit those assets.

Step 4: Apple reviews distribution

Wait for distribution approval on the submitted assets.

Step 5: Push the app update

Once distribution is granted, push the whitelabel app update so Tap to Pay goes live for every merchant.

Android setup

Android requires no Apple-style entitlement.

  1. Submit a whitelabel app update through the standard Sparkforge update request process.
  2. After the update ships, the Android app supports Tap to Pay automatically.

Timing and support

Apple's review can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. Plan release timelines with that buffer. For entitlement issues, contact Apple Developer Support. For app updates and integration questions, contact Sparkforge support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I pay extra for the Tap to Pay entitlement?
No. Apple's entitlement itself is free. You just have to wait for Apple to approve it before the feature is active.
Can I use Tap to Pay without Stripe?
Sparkforge's Tap to Pay implementation supports Stripe and Square only as the payment service provider. Other PSPs aren't supported.
How long does Apple's approval take?
Typically 1-6 weeks depending on account eligibility. Apple does not commit to a specific window.
What happens if Apple rejects my entitlement request?
You can resubmit with corrected information or contact Apple Developer Support to clarify what they want.
Is Tap to Pay available globally?
Availability depends on Apple's regional rollout and Stripe's country support. List every intended country on the entitlement form.
