Control Signature Types for Documents and Contracts

Pick whether recipients sign Sparkforge documents by drawing, typing, or both. The setting is sub-account level and applies to every document sent from that sub-account.

Sparkforge lets you control the signature methods recipients can use on Documents and Contracts. The choice applies at the sub-account level — every document sent from that sub-account follows the same rule, no per-document toggling required.

The three options

  • Draw Signatures — Recipients must draw a signature by hand. Use this when policy or regulation calls for a handwritten-style mark.
  • Type Signatures — Recipients type their name, rendered in a script font. Faster, but not always acceptable for compliance.
  • Both — Recipients pick whichever method they prefer. Maximum flexibility.

Set the signature type

  1. In the left navigation, click Payments.
  2. Click the Documents & Contracts tab in the upper ribbon.
  3. Click Settings in the upper right.
  4. In the secondary left navigation, select Document Settings.
  5. Scroll to Control Signature Settings.
  6. Pick Draw Signatures, Type Signatures, or Both.
  7. Click the blue Save button.

What changes apply to

The setting applies to all documents sent from the sub-account. New or refreshed signing sessions reflect the latest setting. If a recipient already has the document open, they need to refresh before signing for the new options to appear.

Audit trail, status tracking (viewed, signed, completed), and workflow automations behave the same regardless of which method the signer uses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the setting global or per-document?
Global at the sub-account level. It applies to every document sent from that sub-account.
What happens if I change the setting after sending a document?
New or refreshed signing sessions reflect the new setting. Anyone with the document already open should refresh before signing.
Does the chosen method affect audit trail or automations?
No. Status tracking and workflow triggers behave the same whether the signer drew or typed the signature.
Which option is best for compliance?
If your industry or policy requires handwritten-style marks, choose Draw Signatures. Otherwise, Both gives signers flexibility without losing compliance for those who draw.
