The Group Access Granted trigger fires when a contact is added to a community group. Use it to send welcome messages, drop intro tasks, and update CRM tags so members ramp up fast.

The Group Access Granted trigger fires the moment a user is granted access to a community group. Use it to onboard new members with welcome messages, intro content, and any CRM updates that should accompany group access.

What the trigger does

It activates a workflow when a Sparkforge community grants a contact access to a group. The trigger covers manual grants, payment-driven grants, and automated grants from other workflows.

Configure the trigger

  1. Open the Workflow Builder in your Sparkforge account.
  2. Click Create a Workflow and start from scratch.
  3. Add the Group Access Granted trigger.
  4. Pick the group whose access should fire the workflow.
  5. Add downstream actions — a welcome email, an SMS, a CRM tag, or a Slack-style internal alert.
  6. Test the workflow with a dummy contact, then save and activate.

Example: book club onboarding

A new member joins a book club community. The workflow grants them access to the Book Discussions group, sends a welcome email with the upcoming reading list, and pins the next live discussion to their calendar. They show up engaged on day one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the trigger fire for every group, or do I scope it?
Scope it. Pick the specific group when you configure the trigger so it only fires for the group whose onboarding you want to automate.
Can I send different welcomes for different groups?
Yes. Build one workflow per group, each scoped to that group's access grant, so each cohort gets the right onboarding sequence.
Does this work for paid group access?
Yes. Whether access is granted by purchase, manual grant, or another workflow, this trigger fires when the access is added.
Can I update CRM tags from this trigger?
Yes. Add an Add Tag or Update Custom Field action downstream so reporting reflects which groups each contact has access to.
