Email Events Workflow Trigger in Sparkforge
The Email Events trigger starts a workflow when a recipient opens, clicks, bounces, unsubscribes, or marks an email as spam. Use Event and In Workflow filters to target the exact interactions you care about.
The Email Events workflow trigger fires when a specific email event happens — an open, click, bounce, unsubscribe, or spam complaint. Use it to follow up the moment a lead engages, prune disengaged contacts, and protect sender reputation automatically.
What it does
The trigger reacts to recipient interactions on emails sent from Sparkforge. Filters let you target a specific event type and limit the trigger to events that came from a particular workflow.
Configure the trigger
- Open the Automation section and create or open a workflow.
- Click + Add New Trigger and select Email Events.
- Give the trigger a descriptive name.
- Set the Event filter and (optionally) the In Workflow filter.
- Save and publish the workflow.
Event filter options
- Clicked — recipient clicked any link in the email.
- Opened — recipient opened the email.
- Bounced — the email failed to deliver.
- Unsubscribed — recipient unsubscribed from your list.
- Complained (Spam) — recipient marked the email as spam. Track this aggressively — too many complaints can get your domain blocked.
In Workflow filter
Restricts the trigger to email events from a specific workflow. Useful when the same contact receives email from multiple campaigns and you only want one of them to drive automation.
Common use cases
- Follow up clickers: When a contact clicks a promo link, send a personal SMS or assign a task to a sales rep.
- Auto-cleanup on bounce: When an email bounces, mark the contact as
Bad Emailand pause future email sends. - Honor unsubscribes everywhere: When a contact unsubscribes, set DND and remove them from active campaigns.
- Spam complaint guardrail: When a contact marks email as spam, alert the marketing team and exclude the contact from all future sends.
