Call Status Workflow Trigger in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

The Call Status trigger fires a workflow based on how a call ended — busy, no answer, voicemail, completed, or canceled. Use it to chase missed calls, schedule callbacks, and log outcomes automatically.

The Call Status trigger fires a workflow when a call ends in a specific state — busy, canceled, voicemail, completed, or not answered. Filter by direction (incoming or outgoing) to handle inbound and outbound calls separately.

What it does

Every call routed through Sparkforge has a final status. This trigger watches for the status you choose, then runs the rest of the workflow — sending notifications, creating tasks, scheduling callbacks, or chaining into another workflow.

Why use it

  • No missed callbacks: automatically chase busy and no-answer calls.
  • Less manual logging: outcomes write themselves into the contact record.
  • Tight filtering: separate incoming from outgoing, voicemail from completed.
  • Workflow chaining: link to follow-on workflows for multi-step processes.
  • Faster team response: notifications hit the right person the moment the call ends.

How to configure it

  1. Open Automation and create or edit a workflow.
  2. Click Add New Trigger and select Call Status.
  3. Give the trigger a descriptive name, such as Missed Call Follow-Up.
  4. Set Call Direction (incoming or outgoing).
  5. Set Call Status (busy, voicemail, completed, etc.).
  6. Optionally add an In Workflow filter to chain into another workflow.
  7. Save, build the rest of the workflow, run a test, then toggle Publish.

Common use cases

Missed call follow-up

Status is busy or not answered. Send a text-back, notify the rep, and log the missed call.

Support callback

Direction incoming, status not answered. Schedule a callback task and update the contact's activity log.

Outbound sales follow-up

Direction outgoing, status completed. Send a follow-up email and queue the next call in the pipeline.

Voicemail routing

Status voicemail. Notify the assigned team member and create a task to return the call.

Call quality reporting

Status canceled or busy. Aggregate weekly and email the manager so they can spot patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can one workflow handle multiple call statuses?
Yes. Configure the filter for multiple statuses, or add separate triggers for each case if you need different downstream logic.
What if a call passes through several statuses quickly?
The trigger fires on each status change. Use wait steps or workflow conditions to avoid duplicate actions.
Can I chain this into another workflow?
Yes. Use the In Workflow filter or add an Add to Workflow action to pass the contact along once the trigger fires.
How do I tell incoming and outgoing calls apart?
Set the Call Direction filter on the trigger to either incoming or outgoing.
Does it work with external phone systems?
It works with calls that flow through Sparkforge phone numbers. External call data needs to be pushed in via a supported integration.
