Troubleshoot Google Ads Reporting in Sparkforge
Most Google Ads reporting issues in Sparkforge come down to three things: the connected Gmail account needs admin (not manager) role, UTM templates must be applied at one level only, and ad/campaign/ad-group names must be unique.
If Google Ads data isn't flowing into Sparkforge correctly, the cause is almost always one of three setup mistakes. Walk through each in order.
1. Wrong Gmail user role on the Google Ads account
The Gmail account connected through Sparkforge integrations has to be a User or Admin on the Google Ads account. A Manager role won't work, even though it looks like more permission.
- Open Google Ads > Tools & Settings > Access and Security.
- Confirm the connected Gmail is listed as Admin or User on the Google Ads account itself.
- If it's only on the Manager (MCC) account, add it directly to the underlying Ads account.
2. UTM tracking template applied in too many places
Google Ads lets you set the tracking template at three levels: Account, Campaign, and Ad. If templates exist at more than one level, Google applies them in hierarchy order (Account > Campaign > Ad), which causes mismatches in Sparkforge reporting.
Set the tracking template in one place only. Account-level is the cleanest choice for most setups.
UTM parameters are case-sensitive. The template must match the format exactly, with no capital letters where lowercase is required.
3. Duplicate campaign, ad-set, or ad names
Sparkforge attribution uses these names as identifiers. If the same name appears in two different ad groups or campaigns, leads get attributed to the wrong row in your reports.
Wrong
- Campaign: Winter Shoes
- Ad Group: Sport Shoes 1 > Ad: Nike Sport Shoes 1
- Ad Group: Sport Shoes 2 > Ad: Nike Sport Shoes 1
Both ads share the name Nike Sport Shoes 1, so Sparkforge can't tell them apart.
Right
- Campaign: Winter Shoes
- Ad Group: Sport Shoes 1 York > Ad: Nike Sport Shoes 1.1 York logo
- Ad Group: Sport Shoes 2 John > Ad: Nike Sport Shoes 1.2 John
Each ad name is unique, so attribution lands on the correct row.
Verifying the fix
- Run a fresh test conversion from a new ad click.
- Wait 30-60 minutes for Sparkforge to ingest the click and conversion data.
- Open Reporting > Google Ads and confirm the lead appears under the correct campaign and ad.
