How to Set Up Facebook Ad Reporting in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Add UTM parameters in Facebook Ads Manager that map to {{campaign.name}}, {{adset.name}}, and {{ad.name}}, then pair with the Facebook pixel and Conversion API in Sparkforge Workflows so every lead lands with full attribution.

Sparkforge attributes Facebook leads to the campaign, ad set, and ad that drove them. To make that attribution accurate, add UTM parameters in Facebook Ads Manager and pair them with the Facebook pixel and Conversion API inside Workflows.

Before you start

  • Set up the Facebook pixel and Conversion API in Workflows for any landing page traffic.
  • UTM parameters won't appear in Facebook's ad preview — that's expected.
  • Don't use special characters or emojis in any tracked parameter.
  • First-touch attribution only records when leads enter through specific entry points (below).

Supported entry points

  • Form submissions
  • Survey submissions
  • Calendar bookings
  • Facebook Lead Form (direct)
  • Two-step order forms
  • Chat widget
  • Inbound calls (click-to-call only — not direct dials to a number pool)

UTM fields available on the contact record

  • Campaign Name: {{contact.attributionSource.utmCampaign}}
  • Ad Set Name: {{contact.attributionSource.utmMedium}}
  • Ad Name: {{contact.attributionSource.utmContent}}
  • Campaign ID: {{contact.attributionSource.campaignId}}
  • fbclid: {{contact.attributionSource.fbclid}}
  • gclid: {{contact.attributionSource.gclid}}
  • Referrer: {{contact.attributionSource.referrer}}

Name your campaigns for clean reporting

Campaign, ad set, and ad names must be unique and stay unchanged for the life of the campaign. If you rename them mid-flight, Sparkforge keeps reporting against the original names.

Example structure

  • Campaign: Happy Teeth
  • Ad set: Happy Teeth - Audience #1 (San Rafael 20mi - M&F)
  • Ads: Carousel, Video, Image (each uniquely named)

Add UTM parameters in Facebook Ads Manager

  1. Open Ads Manager and select the campaign → Manage ads → Ads → Edit.
  2. Scroll to the Tracking section.
  3. Click Build a URL parameter.
  4. Set Campaign Source to fb_ad.
  5. Set Campaign Medium to {{adset.name}}.
  6. Set Campaign Name to {{campaign.name}}.
  7. Set Campaign Content to {{ad.name}}.
  8. Click Add Parameter, name it campaign_id, and select {{campaign.id}}.
  9. Click Apply.

Facebook will review and approve the change before tracking goes live.

Troubleshooting

UTMs missing in ad preview

Facebook strips UTM parameters from the preview view. Once the ad runs, they appear on the destination URL.

No first-touch attribution showing

The lead probably entered through a channel that isn't in the supported entry-point list above.

Reporting broke after a rename

Campaign, ad set, and ad names can't change mid-flight. Clone the asset with a new name instead.

Lead-gen ads

UTMs still help. Add them in the tracking field even on lead-gen ads for cleaner segmentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I put UTMs — destination URL or tracking field?
Use the URL parameters/tracking field in Facebook Ads Manager. That's what generates unique fbclids per click and feeds attribution into Sparkforge.
Why don't my UTMs show in the Facebook ad preview?
Facebook doesn't append UTM parameters in preview mode. Once the ad goes live, the parameters attach to outbound clicks.
Do Facebook Lead-gen Ads need UTMs too?
Yes. UTMs improve segmentation and reporting even for native lead forms. Add them the same way you would for traffic ads.
Will renaming a campaign break attribution?
Yes. Campaign, ad set, and ad names lock for the life of the asset. Rename means clone — create a new campaign instead.
What's the Objectives dropdown in Ad Reports?
It records the original objective you set when building the campaign so you can filter performance by intent (leads, conversions, traffic, etc.).
