Notes for Custom Objects brings the Contact-style notes experience to any Custom Object record (Property, Car, Policy, etc.) and lets you associate Contact or Opportunity notes to a related Custom Object.

Notes capture context (updates, follow-ups, internal details) directly on CRM records. The same Notes experience available on Contacts now works on Custom Object records, including search and filters/sorting. You can also associate existing or new notes from Contacts or Opportunities to a related Custom Object record.

What you can do

  • Add notes directly on a Custom Object record (Property, Car, Policy, Subscription, etc.).
  • Search notes by keyword to find context fast.
  • Filter and sort to manage long note histories.
  • Associate any Contact or Opportunity note to a related Custom Object record.

Add notes on a Custom Object record

  1. Open Custom Objects and select an object (for example, Properties).
  2. Open a record to see its details.
  3. Open Notes from the right panel.
  4. Click Add Note, enter the note, and save.
  5. Use Search to find notes by keyword.
  6. Use Filters and Sorting to narrow long lists.
  7. Optionally associate the note to a linked contact or opportunity.

Associate a Contact or Opportunity note to a Custom Object

  1. Open a Contact or Opportunity record.
  2. Go to Notes and create a new note or open an existing one.
  3. In the note's Associations, select the related Custom Object record.
  4. Save. The note now appears on both the Custom Object record and the original Contact or Opportunity.

You can only associate a note to a Custom Object record that is already related to the same Contact or Opportunity.

Examples by industry

Real estate (Property object)

Log post-visit notes ("Client prefers east-facing, budget updated") on the Property record so every agent sees current context.

Auto services (Car object)

Track inspection details ("Brake pads replaced, next service due in 5,000 km") on the Car record to keep clean service history.

Insurance / financial (Policy object)

Capture renewal status ("Renewal offered, waiting on documents") on the Policy record so the team has shared visibility.

Sales: Opportunity to Custom Object

A rep adds negotiation notes on an Opportunity and links the same note to the related Property record. Anyone viewing the Property gets the same context without duplicate notes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Custom Objects support notes?
Any Custom Object record supports notes. The same Notes experience used on Contacts is available on every Custom Object record.
Can a note appear on more than one record?
Yes. A note can stay on its original Contact or Opportunity and be associated to a related Custom Object record so it shows in both places.
Are there limits on which Custom Objects can be linked?
You can only associate a note to a Custom Object record that is already related to the same Contact or Opportunity the note lives on.
Can I search and filter notes across all records?
Notes search and filters work on each record's notes panel so you can quickly narrow a long history by keyword or attribute.
