Send Workflow Events to Google Analytics in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Add a Google Analytics action to any Sparkforge workflow to track form submissions, opt-ins, or call events. Paste your tracking ID, set event category, action, and label, then verify hits in your GA4 acquisition reports.

Sparkforge workflows can send events to Google Analytics so you can track more than page views — form submissions, opt-ins, support calls, and any other workflow trigger. The action works with both GA4 and Universal Analytics properties.

Find your tracking ID

Universal Analytics

  1. Open Google Analytics and click the Admin tab.
  2. In the left column, click Tracking Info.
  3. Click Tracking Code. Your ID starts with UA-.

GA4

  1. Open Google Analytics and click the Admin tab.
  2. In the left column, click Property Settings.
  3. Copy the numeric Property ID.

Add the action to a workflow

Inside the workflow editor, choose the Google Analytics action and fill the fields:

  • Tracking ID / Property ID — paste from above
  • Event Category — for example, Form Submission
  • Event Action — for example, Exit Form Opt-in
  • Event Label — for example, Black Friday
  • Event Value — optional numeric value

Each field accepts dynamic values via merge tags, so you can pass contact-specific data into GA.

Traffic source attribution

Sparkforge categorizes traffic by referring domain and UTM parameters. If both utm_medium and utm_source are set, those win. Otherwise, attribution falls back to these rules:

SourceDetectionutm_mediumutm_source
Google OrganicReferrer is google.comorganicGoogle
Paid Searchutm_source=google AND referrer google.comcpcGoogle
FacebookReferrer facebook.comreferralFacebook
Paid Socialutm_medium=cpc AND utm_source=facebook.comcpcFacebook
DirectNo referrer or UTMsnonedirect
Social MediaReferrer is Instagram, YouTube, X, Pinterest, etc.socialSocial Referring Site

Sparkforge passes gclid on every event so unique Google Ads clicks stay attributable.

Verify the integration

Open GA4 and go to Reports > Acquisition. Filter by source and medium. Workflow events should appear within minutes of firing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Universal Analytics and GA4?
GA4 replaces UA's hit-type model (page_view, event) with a single event-based model. UA's Category, Action, and Label fields don't map directly into GA4 reports — design your GA4 events around the new schema rather than porting UA structure.
Can I send dynamic values to GA?
Yes. Every event field accepts Sparkforge merge tags, so you can pass contact-specific category, action, label, or value data.
How do I verify the integration is working?
Open your GA4 property, go to Reports > Acquisition, and filter by source and medium. Events from a fired workflow appear within minutes.
Does Sparkforge pass gclid for Google Ads attribution?
Yes. Sparkforge forwards gclid on every event so Google Ads click-level attribution stays intact.
