How to Connect Facebook and Instagram Messenger in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Connect Facebook and Instagram under Settings > Integrations to centralize messenger conversations. Sparkforge auto-creates or merges contacts based on your dedup settings.

Connecting Facebook and Instagram routes every DM into Sparkforge Conversations alongside email, SMS, and chat. One inbox for all channels.

Connect the Integration

  1. Open Settings > Integrations.
  2. Under Facebook & Instagram, click Connect.
  3. Log in to Facebook and pick the page connected to your Instagram account.
  4. Click Connect Facebook & Instagram.
  5. Click Sync Leads.

How Messenger Contacts Are Created

When someone DMs your business for the first time, Sparkforge creates or updates a contact based on your Contact Deduplication Preferences:

  • If Allow Duplicate Contact is off and the person later shares a matching email or phone, Sparkforge merges the messenger contact into the existing record.
  • If Allow Duplicate Contact is on, separate records may exist for the same person.

Link Instagram to Your Facebook Page

Instagram DMs only flow through if Instagram is linked to a Facebook business page:

  1. Log in to your Facebook page.
  2. Open Account > Settings.
  3. Search Linked Accounts.
  4. Select Instagram and click Connect.
  5. Keep the toggle on so DMs route to your inbox.
  6. Authenticate with your Instagram credentials.

Test the Integration

Send a test DM from a personal Facebook or Instagram account. It should appear in Conversations within seconds, attached to a new or existing contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Facebook Business page?
Yes. Personal profiles cannot connect. Use a business page tied to an Instagram Business or Creator account.
Can I respond to Instagram DMs from Sparkforge?
Yes. Replies sent from Conversations route through the connected page and appear in the customer's Instagram inbox.
Why are messenger contacts duplicated?
Allow Duplicate Contact is enabled in your dedup preferences. Disable it to auto-merge contacts that share an email or phone.
Does this work for WhatsApp Business too?
WhatsApp connects separately under Integrations. The Facebook/Instagram flow only covers Messenger and Instagram Direct.
