How to Create Custom Unsubscribe Links in Sparkforge
A custom unsubscribe link in Sparkforge is a trigger link that fires a workflow, marks the contact as DND for email, and lands them on a branded confirmation page. Setup takes four steps.
Default unsubscribe links work but drop your contact onto a generic confirmation page. A custom flow keeps the experience branded and lets you reuse one trigger link across every email and workflow you send.
Why use a custom unsubscribe
- Branded experience — opt-out confirmation page matches the rest of your site.
- Preference center option — let contacts opt out of specific lists instead of all email.
- Compliance — clean audit trail for CAN-SPAM and GDPR.
- Better deliverability — easier opt-out reduces spam complaints.
Step 1: Build the unsubscribe landing page
- In your sub-account, go to
Sites > Funnels. - Click + New Funnel and name it Email Unsubscribe.
- Add a step named Email Unsubscribe Page with a path like
/unsubscribe. - Design the page to confirm the opt-out and, optionally, offer subscription preferences.
Step 2: Create the trigger link
- Go to
Marketing > Trigger Links. - Open the Links tab and click Add Link.
- Name the link, paste the URL of the landing page from Step 1, and save.
Step 3: Build the workflow
- Go to
Automation > Workflows. - Click + Create Workflow, then Start from Scratch, and name it.
- Add a trigger: Trigger Link Clicked. Filter on the unsubscribe trigger link from Step 2 and save.
- Add an action: Enable/Disable DND. Choose Enable DND for Specific Channels and select Email.
- Save and publish the workflow.
Step 4: Drop the link into your emails
- In any email template, type Unsubscribe or Unsubscribe from this list.
- Highlight the text and click the link icon.
- From the dropdown, switch to Trigger Links and select your unsubscribe trigger link.
- Save the template.
Workflow emails need the link too
Emails sent inside workflows do not automatically include an unsubscribe link. Manually add the trigger link to every email template used in a workflow to stay compliant.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why use a custom link instead of the default?
It keeps the opt-out branded and lets you control everything from the link text to the confirmation page. Better experience, same compliance.
Does the Enable/Disable DND action stop all email?
It marks the contact as Do Not Disturb for the channels you specify. If you select Email, the contact stops receiving any emails until DND is toggled off.
Do workflow emails include unsubscribe links automatically?
No. Workflow emails do not auto-inject the link. You must add the trigger link manually to each template used inside a workflow.
Can I reuse one trigger link across every email?
Yes — that is the point. Set up the flow once and drop the same trigger link into every campaign, template, and workflow.
Can I track who unsubscribed?
Yes. Trigger link analytics show the click history, and DND status appears on the contact record.
