Chat Widget Traffic Source Attribution in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge logs the traffic source (organic, direct, paid, referral) for every Live Chat conversation. View it on the contact's Activity tab or under Marketing > Form Builder > Submissions, filtered by Widget Form.

When a visitor starts a conversation through the Sparkforge Live Chat widget, the platform captures their traffic source and ties it to the contact record. You can view the source from two places.

View the source on the contact record

Open the contact and look at the Activity tab. The chat widget event shows there. Click the clipboard icon to expand the original message — the form submission view includes the source (Organic Search, Direct Traffic, Paid, Referral, etc.).

View sources across all chat submissions

Go to Marketing > Form Builder > Submissions. Open the Form Selector and pick Widget Form from the Chat Widget section. Every chat conversation appears with its traffic source attached.

What works and what doesn't

  • Attribution works on Live Chat widgets installed on non-Sparkforge sites, including the WordPress widget.
  • Attribution may fail for some iOS users or anyone with privacy mode enabled — those browsers block the tracking cookie.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does chat attribution work on non-Sparkforge websites?
Yes. The chat widget tracks source on any site you install it on, including WordPress sites using the Sparkforge widget.
Why is attribution missing on some conversations?
Some iOS users and visitors with strict privacy mode enabled block the cookie that captures source data. Those conversations show as direct or unknown.
Where can I see all chat widget submissions in one place?
Go to Marketing > Form Builder > Submissions and select Widget Form from the Chat Widget section of the form selector.
