The Facebook Comment(s) On A Post workflow trigger fires when someone comments on your Facebook page posts. Filter by page, post, phrase match, and first-level comments to automate replies and outreach.

The Facebook Comment(s) On A Post workflow trigger fires a Sparkforge workflow whenever a comment on your Facebook page matches the filters you configure. Use it to auto-reply, send a Messenger DM, tag the commenter, or kick off a longer follow-up sequence.

Where to Find the Trigger

Go to Automation → Workflows → Workflow Builder → Triggers → Facebook/Instagram Events.

Trigger Components

Four components control how the trigger behaves:

  • Choose A Workflow Trigger: defaults to this trigger; switch only if you need a different event.
  • Workflow Trigger Name: rename for clarity inside the workflow.
  • Filters: page, post, and phrase criteria that decide when the trigger fires.
  • Track First Level Comments Only: toggle to include or exclude nested comments.

Filters

Page Is + Post Type + Post Is

  1. Page Is: select one of your connected Facebook pages.
  2. Post Type: choose Published Post to pick from your posts list, or Custom Post to enter a URL.
  3. Post Is: if you chose Published Post, pick the exact post; if Custom Post, paste the URL.

Contains Phrase vs. Exact Match

After identifying the post, choose how Sparkforge matches comment text:

FilterPhraseCommentResult
Contains Phrase"I bought from you""I bought from you yesterday"Pass
Contains Phrase"I bought from you""I bought one from you"Fail
Exact Match"I bought from you""I bought from you"Pass
Exact Match"I bought from you""I bought from you yesterday"Fail
  • Contains Phrase: fires if the comment contains any one of the strings you provide.
  • Exact Match: fires only when the entire comment matches one of your strings exactly.

Track First Level Comments Only

  • On: the trigger fires only for top-level comments on the post.
  • Off: the trigger fires for any comment, including nested replies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this trigger work for Instagram comments?
No. Use the Instagram Comment(s) On A Post trigger for Instagram. The two share identical filter logic but listen to different platforms.
What actions pair well with this trigger?
Reply In Comment, Facebook Interactive Messenger, and the Facebook Comment Automation recipe. They cover most public-reply and DM follow-up patterns.
Can the trigger create an infinite loop?
No. Workflow triggers ignore comments posted by workflow actions, so an automated reply can’t re-trigger the same workflow.
What’s the difference between Contains Phrase and Exact Match?
Contains Phrase fires when the comment includes one of your strings anywhere. Exact Match fires only when the full comment text equals one of your strings.
Can I run the trigger across all my page posts at once?
Yes. Choose Published Post and select the page-wide post option to listen across every post on that page rather than a single one.
