What Is CNAM and How to Register Your Business Name
CNAM (Caller Name Presentation) attaches your business name to your phone number on the U.S. public telephone network. Register or update CNAM from the Trust Center. An EIN is required.
CNAM (Caller Name Presentation) is the U.S. telephone network feature that ties your phone number to a business or personal name. When you place an outgoing call, that name may show up on the recipient's caller ID, depending on the carrier.
Why CNAM Matters
- Builds trust with the people you're calling.
- Increases the chance your call gets answered.
- Doesn't remove existing nuisance labels.
- Display isn't guaranteed — some recipient carriers don't show CNAM data.
Requirements
- An EIN (Employer Identification Number) is required for CNAM registration.
- Sole proprietors with an EIN qualify, just like larger businesses.
How to Register or Update CNAM
You can manage CNAM directly from the Trust Center. You don't need to contact your carrier.
- Go to your sub-account Settings → Phone Numbers → Trust Center.
- Click CNAM (voice).
- Start the registration and submit your details.
Benefits at a Glance
| Feature | What It Does | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| CNAM | Displays your business name on outgoing calls. | Improves recognition and trust, leading to higher answer rates. |
Any entity with a business registration number, including sole proprietors with an EIN, can sign up for CNAM. The EIN itself is mandatory.
Pair CNAM With SHAKEN/STIR
CNAM doesn't replace SHAKEN/STIR. Use both: SHAKEN/STIR authenticates the caller ID, and CNAM displays the business name. Together they give recipients a full picture of who's calling.
