User Permissions for Calendars in Sparkforge
Sparkforge calendar permissions split into View and Manage rights for Calendars, Appointments, and Groups. The Assigned Data toggle limits a user to records they're assigned to.
The Calendar module supports granular permissions so each user only sees and edits what their role needs. Permissions split into two types and apply to three areas, with an extra toggle for assignment-scoped access.
The two permission types
- View permissions let a user see calendar data without changing it.
- Manage permissions let a user create, edit, and delete records.
Three areas you can scope
Both view and manage permissions can be set independently for:
- Calendars
- Appointments
- Groups
Granting any view permission unlocks access to the Calendar module itself.
Assigned Data toggle
Assigned Data narrows the scope further:
- On: the user only sees calendars and appointments they're assigned to.
- Off: the user sees everything their permissions allow, regardless of assignment.
Example scenarios
- View Calendars only: the user can browse all calendars but can't create, edit, or delete them.
- Manage Appointments only: the user can create, edit, and delete appointments but can't touch calendars or groups.
- View Appointments + Assigned Data on: the user only sees appointments assigned to them.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between View and Manage?
View lets a user read records. Manage lets them create, edit, and delete. You set them independently for calendars, appointments, and groups.
What does Assigned Data do?
When on, the user only sees records they're personally assigned to. When off, their permissions apply across all data they can access.
Can I let someone manage appointments but not calendars?
Yes. Grant Manage on Appointments and leave Calendars and Groups at View or no access.
How do I open the Calendar module for a user?
Grant any view permission for Calendars, Appointments, or Groups. That unlocks module access.
Are these permissions retroactive?
Yes. Permission changes apply immediately to existing records, not just new ones.
