Text Formatter Workflow Action in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Text Formatter is a free workflow action that transforms text mid-flow: case conversion, trim, replace, split, extract URL or email, strip HTML, and more. Add it from the Internal Tools category.

Text Formatter cleans up data inside a workflow before it reaches the next action. It's a free internal action and handles the small transformations that otherwise require custom code or a third-party tool.

What Text Formatter does

It takes text input from earlier in the workflow and applies one transformation at a time. Use multiple Text Formatter actions in sequence to chain transformations.

Action types

Case conversion

  • Upper Case — standardize input or output to all caps.
  • Lower Case — normalize for case-insensitive comparison.
  • Title Case — capitalize the first letter of every word, useful for headings and titles.
  • Capitalize — capitalize only the first letter of the string.

Cleanup

  • Trim Whitespaces — strip leading and trailing whitespace from messy form input.
  • Remove HTML Tags — strip HTML to get plain text for SMS or alerts.
  • Default Value — return a fallback when the input is empty.

Truncation and length

  • Trim — shorten text to a specified length. Optional: skip characters from the start or append an ellipsis.
  • Length — returns the character count.
  • Word Count — returns the word count.

Search and replace

  • Replace Text — swap one substring for another. Useful for templated content with placeholders.
  • Find — returns the position of the first match of a pattern.

Extraction

  • Extract URL — pulls the first URL out of a block of text.
  • Extract Email — pulls the first email address out of a block of text.
  • Split — breaks text on a delimiter and returns First, Second, Last, or Second Last segment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Text Formatter cost extra?
No. It's a free workflow action and counts against no usage allotment.
Can I chain multiple transformations?
Yes. Add multiple Text Formatter actions in sequence and feed each one the output of the previous step.
What's the difference between Capitalize and Title Case?
Capitalize uppercases only the first letter of the entire string. Title Case uppercases the first letter of every word.
Where does Extract URL find URLs?
It returns the first URL it finds in the input text. If you need every URL, use Split or a series of Find actions to walk the string.
Can Text Formatter parse JSON?
No. Text Formatter handles plain text. For JSON, use a custom code or webhook step earlier in the workflow.
