SIM-Based Calling from the Sparkforge Mobile App

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

SIM-based calling hands a contact's number from the Sparkforge mobile app to your device's native dialer, so you can call leads before Sparkforge Phone is set up. Once a Sparkforge Phone number is active on the sub-account, SIM calling is replaced by VoIP.

SIM-based calling is a one-tap shortcut in the Sparkforge mobile app. Tap a phone icon next to a contact and your device's native dialer opens with the number pre-filled. The call routes through your personal SIM and your carrier's plan, not through Sparkforge Phone.

When SIM-Based Calling Works

SIM-based calling is only available when no Sparkforge Phone number is active on the sub-account. Once a Sparkforge Phone number is purchased, the mobile app switches to VoIP and SIM calling is no longer offered.

What You Get

  • Zero setup: Works automatically before Sparkforge Phone is enabled.
  • One-tap dialing: Native dialer opens with the lead's number pre-filled.
  • Carrier billing: Calls use your existing mobile plan minutes, not Sparkforge billing.
  • Bridge to Sparkforge Phone: Lets teams start calling immediately and upgrade to a business number later.

Limitations

  • No call recording, transfer, or analytics — those features rely on Sparkforge Phone.
  • Calls do not auto-log in Sparkforge. You log them manually.
  • Recipients see your personal caller ID, not a business number.
  • Standard carrier minutes and charges apply.

Where to Place a SIM-Based Call

The phone icon shows up wherever a phone number surfaces in the mobile app:

  • Contacts: Top-right of the profile header.
  • Opportunities: Inside the Kanban card and detail view.
  • Conversations: Quick-action toolbar above the thread.

How to Place the Call

  1. Open Contacts, Opportunities, or Conversations.
  2. Tap the phone icon next to the lead's number.
  3. Your device's native dialer opens with the number pre-filled. Press the call button.

Logging SIM Calls Manually

Because calls do not auto-log, capture outcomes one of three ways:

  • Add a note on the contact profile.
  • Use the Log External Call workflow action to attribute call outcomes to reporting fields.
  • Use the Manual Call workflow action to schedule follow-ups.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does SIM-based calling cost extra?
No. Calls use your existing carrier plan minutes or VoLTE data. Nothing is billed through Sparkforge for SIM calls.
Will contacts see my personal caller ID?
Yes. The call originates from your SIM, so recipients see whatever name or number is attached to your carrier line.
Does Sparkforge log SIM calls automatically?
No. Only Sparkforge Phone (VoIP) calls are auto-logged. SIM calls must be logged manually using notes or the Log External Call workflow action.
Why did the SIM call option disappear after I bought a phone number?
Once a Sparkforge Phone number is active on the sub-account, the mobile app switches to VoIP. SIM-based calling is intentionally only available as a bridge before Sparkforge Phone is set up.
