Set Up Your Sparkforge Marketplace App Pricing
Set your Marketplace app's pricing inside the developer console: pick payment collection (Sparkforge platform recommended), choose Free, Subscription, One-time, or Freemium, configure billing meters, and optionally offer a free trial up to 90 days.
Monetizing a Sparkforge Marketplace app means picking how you collect payment, what pricing model fits, and whether to offer a free trial. This walks through the full setup.
Where to configure pricing
Sign in to your Marketplace developer account, open your app, and click Pricing in the left menu.
Payment collection preference
Within the Sparkforge platform (recommended)
Customers — agencies and sub-accounts — pay through Sparkforge. We process payments and pay out to you.
- Agencies can resell your app to their sub-accounts.
- Use Sparkforge pricing modules like free trials.
- Streamlined collection and reconciliation.
External payment page (not recommended)
You handle billing on your own platform. Customers redirect out during install and the app installs after a successful payment. Add the redirect URL in Pricing.
Note: You can switch from external to internal collection later, but once you go live with internal you can't switch back without deleting and recreating the app. Apps with external billing also can't be resold by agencies.
Pricing models
- Free
- Paid — Subscription
- Paid — One-time
- Freemium — combination of Free and Paid plans
Free trials can be added to any model.
Dynamic (usage-based) pricing
Configure the billing meter
- Open App → Pricing → Billing Meters.
- Create or edit a meter with Module Type = Custom Event (API).
- Set Price Type = Dynamic.
- Enter Minimum and Maximum price, add a Pricing Page URL, set the Default Price per Unit.
- Save.
Charge the wallet via API
Use the existing Create Wallet Charge API. Pass the optional price field to apply a dynamic per-unit price for that charge. If omitted, the meter's Default Price per Unit applies.
Agency reselling and markups
- Agencies can set a flat per-unit markup when reselling your app's services.
- The Pricing Page URL is visible to agency admins only — sub-accounts don't see it, so markups don't create confusion.
- Example: SMS base $1.00 (UK) and $1.50 (France); a $0.50 markup means sub-accounts pay $1.50 (UK) and $2.00 (France).
Distribution types and pricing
Pricing behavior depends on your app's distribution type. Assuming the agency adds a flat 5% markup:
| Distribution Model | Pricing | Agency pays | Sub-account pays agency | Developer earns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Target: Agency | $50/month | $50/month | — | $50/month |
| Target: Sub-account / Anyone installs | $10/month | $10/month | $10.50/month | $10/month |
| Target: Sub-account / Agency installs only | $50/month | $50/month | — | $50/month |
| Differential pricing (monthly) | Agency $50 + $10/sub | $50 + $10/sub | $10.50/month | $50 + $10/sub |
Free trials
- 1 to 90 days, configured at the app level (applies to all pricing plans).
- A user can take a trial only once per app within 90 days.
- Users get a notification 24 hours before the trial ends.
- If payment fails after trial, Sparkforge retries for 3 days. If all attempts fail, the app uninstalls.
- Track trials via the AppInstall webhook and the Get Installed Locations API.
Earnings and payouts
Sparkforge takes no commission — you receive the full developer price. Agencies can mark up resale to sub-accounts; the markup goes to the agency, not to you.
Earnings dashboard
- Total Earnings — cumulative.
- Total Installs — install count.
- Active Accounts — currently installed.
Payouts via Tipalti
Eligible developers get an email invite to register with Tipalti. Once your account is set up, payouts run monthly on the 15th for the prior month's earnings. Once Tipalti shows status "submitted," funds typically land in 1-3 days depending on payout method.
