How to Add a Download File Action to Buttons in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

The Download File action makes any button, image, or SVG on a Sparkforge funnel or website deliver a file (PDF, image, ZIP) on click. Toggle Download in the element settings, link a Media Library file, and rename it for the user.

The Download File action turns any button, image, or SVG into a one-click file delivery on Sparkforge funnels and websites. Use it for lead magnets, brochures, pricing PDFs, or digital assets without third-party download services.

Enable the action

  1. Open the funnel or website in the editor.
  2. Select the Button, Image, or SVG element.
  3. In the right-hand settings panel, toggle Download to ON.
  4. Click Link File to open the Media Picker.
  5. Choose an existing file or upload a new one to the Media Library.
  6. Rename the file for the end user (optional).
  7. Save and preview.

Supported elements

  • Buttons: best for clear CTAs like "Download Now."
  • Images: turn an icon, poster, or thumbnail into a clickable download.
  • SVGs: trigger downloads from custom vector graphics.

Customize the downloaded file name

Rename the file at the link step so the user gets a clean, branded filename. Replace something like file_123.pdf with 2025_Pricing_Guide.pdf for a more professional download.

How users experience it

Clicking the element triggers a direct download — there is no preview screen. The browser handles the file with the user's default download behavior.

Limits to know

  • One file per element. To offer multiple downloads, use multiple buttons or a follow-up email.
  • Any file in the Media Library is supported, including PDFs, images, and ZIPs.
  • Downloads are not tracked per user. To attribute downloads, gate the asset behind a form and use a workflow trigger on submission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I attach more than one file to a single button?
No. Each element supports one downloadable file. To offer a bundle, zip the files together or use multiple elements.
Which file types are supported?
Anything you can store in the Media Library, including PDFs, images, ZIP archives, and more.
Can I track who downloads my file?
Direct downloads are not tracked individually. To attribute downloads, gate the file behind a form and trigger a workflow on submission.
Will users see a preview before the download starts?
No. The file downloads directly when the element is clicked — the browser handles it as a normal file download.
Can I change the filename the user sees?
Yes. At the Link File step, rename the file to something user-friendly like 2025_Pricing_Guide.pdf instead of the original Media Library filename.
