How to Use Domain Connect in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Domain Connect auto-configures DNS when your domain is registered with Google Domains, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, or IONOS. You authorize once, and Sparkforge writes the records for you.

Domain Connect skips the manual DNS work. Authorize Sparkforge with your domain provider and the records get written automatically. It works for root domains and subdomains.

Before You Start

  • This connects an existing domain. It does not register one. Buy the domain first at Google Domains, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, or IONOS.
  • If you use Cloudflare, set the auto-created DNS records to DNS only (proxy off).
  • After authorizing on the provider tab, close that tab to return to Sparkforge and finish verification.

Connect a Domain

  1. In your sub-account, go to Settings > Domains.
  2. Click Add Domain.
  3. Enter your root domain or subdomain. To add the www version too, use the option that appears.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. If your registrar is supported, click Authorize and follow the prompts on the provider's site.
  6. Close the provider tab when authorization completes. Sparkforge writes the required records and verifies the connection.
  7. Test the domain. DNS changes typically reflect within 30 seconds, occasionally longer.

If Your Provider Is Not Supported

You can still connect manually. Sparkforge shows the exact DNS records (CNAME, A, etc.) to add at your registrar. The connection works the same once propagation completes.

Common Issues

  • Authorization error: retry the Authorize flow. Confirm you are logged into the correct provider account.
  • www subdomain points elsewhere: Sparkforge cannot delete an existing CNAME or A record pointing to another service. Remove that record at your registrar before the www version will resolve to Sparkforge.
  • Cloudflare proxy on: turn the orange cloud off for the records Sparkforge created.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still configure DNS manually if I prefer?
Yes. Manual configuration is always available, and it is the only path if your registrar is not on the supported list.
Which registrars does Domain Connect support?
Google Domains, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, and IONOS. Other providers require manual DNS records, which Sparkforge displays in the interface.
What happens if my www subdomain already points to another service?
Sparkforge creates the CNAME for the subdomain but cannot remove the existing record at your registrar. Delete that conflicting record yourself for www to resolve correctly.
How long do DNS changes take to apply?
Usually 30 seconds. Occasionally longer depending on the registrar and DNS caching.
Does Domain Connect host my domain?
No. It only configures the DNS records to point an already-registered domain at Sparkforge.
