How to Create and Send Badges in Sparkforge's Certificate Builder

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Badges in the Sparkforge Certificate Builder are customizable digital icons for milestones and course completions. Design from a template or scratch, add dynamic contact values, then email the badge or trigger it from a workflow.

Badges live alongside Certificates in the Sparkforge Memberships area. Use them to recognize lesson completions, skill milestones, or custom achievements, and deliver them by email or workflow automation.

Open the badge editor

  1. Sign in to your Sparkforge subaccount.
  2. Click Memberships in the left menu.
  3. Open the Credentials tab.
  4. Click + Create in the top-right and choose Create Badge.

Pick a starting point

Choose Start from scratch for a blank canvas or pick a template from the built-in library. Click Create to enter the editor.

Design the badge

Edit text

  1. Open the Text tab on the left panel.
  2. Click + Add Text Box and pick Heading, Subheading, or Normal Text.
  3. Edit text directly on the canvas.
  4. Style with font family, size, weight, color, bold, italic, line spacing, and alignment (Left, Center, Right).

Insert dynamic contact values

Add tags inside a text box to auto-fill recipient details: Full Name, First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone, Company Name, Address, City, State, Country, and more.

Only contact-level custom values populate. Some tags may render blank if the contact is missing the source field — preview before sending.

Add design elements

The Elements tab provides lines, shapes, ribbons, icons, and bases. Select an element to customize fill, stroke, border type and width, border radius, and opacity.

Insert images

  • Upload Media from Library for saved assets.
  • Or paste an Image URL to import an external image.

Speed up editing

  • Ctrl+X / Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V: cut, copy, paste any selected element.
  • Arrow keys: nudge by 1 px (works on text, images, shapes, icons).
  • Shift + Arrow: jump 10 px.
  • Bring Forward / Send to Back: control layer order on overlapping elements.

Auto-save

The editor saves your work every 60 seconds. A blue dot signals unsaved changes — click Save to commit immediately, or wait for the dot to clear.

Preview and save

Click the eye icon to preview the badge. Border rendering in the editor matches the final preview. Click Save to add the badge to your Sparkforge directory.

Send the badge by email

  1. Click Send.
  2. Add an Instructor Name.
  3. Pick a saved Recipient or click Add New.
  4. Use the default email template or click Edit next to the eye icon to pick a saved template.
  5. Edit the subject line if needed, preview, then click Confirm and Send Email.

How recipients use badges

  • Download as high-resolution PNG from the email.
  • Share the certificate link.
  • Post directly to social media.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I design badges from scratch instead of using a template?
Yes. Pick Start from scratch in the badge editor for a blank canvas. You can fully customize every element, layer, and dynamic value.
Are badges only for course completions?
No. Badges can recognize any achievement — skill milestones, lesson completions, training modules, or custom criteria you define.
Can I trigger badges automatically from a workflow?
Yes. Use a workflow to award a badge based on lesson completion, quiz results, or any other trigger event.
Do dynamic contact values pull from custom fields?
Only contact-level custom values populate. Some custom fields may render blank if the contact lacks the source value, so always preview before sending.
What happens if I edit a badge after issuing it?
Existing recipients keep the original badge. New issuances use the updated design. To refresh a recipient's badge, reissue it after the edit.
