By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge's URL Blog Importer scans an external homepage, detects posts, and pulls them into your blog. Mapped posts publish automatically; unmapped posts land as drafts.

The URL Blog Importer pulls posts from an external site into Sparkforge. Point it at a homepage, let it scan, then map authors, categories, and tags before importing.

What the Blog Post Importer does

The importer detects available posts on the source site and walks you through Scan, Review, Map, and Import. It cuts out manual copy-paste and gives you visibility into what migrated and what needs follow-up.

  • Guided flow: Scan to Review to Map to Import.
  • Migration control: Review detected posts before importing.
  • Manual mapping: Add missing authors, categories, and tags during import.
  • Flexible outcomes: Import mapped and unmapped posts in one pass.
  • Publish-ready: Mapped posts import as Published; unmapped posts import as Draft.

How to import blog posts by URL

Step 1: Open the blog list

  1. Go to Sites > Blogs.
  2. Click an existing blog or create a new one.

Step 2: Open the importer

  1. Open the Blog Post List.
  2. Click New Post > Import Blog Posts from URL.

Step 3: Start the importer

  1. Enter your blog homepage URL.
  2. Add a recent post URL.
  3. Choose your source platform.
  4. Click Continue and wait for mapping to complete.

Step 4: Map contents

Expect roughly 10-20 minutes per 1,000 posts. If the source sitemap has no URL, posts cannot be imported and you will see a "Scan in progress" state that resolves to a blank failure page.

  1. Follow the prompts to map page elements to blog post fields.
  2. Mapping is complete when every checkmark is green.
  3. When the import finishes, you will see the post count and date.

Step 5: Publish posts

  1. Review imported posts. Fully mapped posts are Published; unmapped posts are Draft.
  2. Select the posts you want to import.
  3. Click Import Selected.

SEO note

The importer carries over post content and available SEO metadata like titles and descriptions. SEO authority does not transfer automatically. To preserve rankings, set up 301 redirects from the old URLs and keep the same domain and URL structure where possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all imported posts stay in Draft?
No. Fully mapped posts import as Published. Posts with incomplete mapping import as Draft so you can finish them later.
Can I import posts when metadata is missing?
Yes. Add or map missing authors, categories, and tags during the mapping stage. You can still import the post either way.
What happens to mixed mapped and unmapped posts?
Both import in the same run. Mapped posts go live as Published; unmapped posts land as Draft for cleanup.
Will SEO rankings transfer when I import?
Content and basic metadata move over, but rankings and link equity do not transfer on their own. Add 301 redirects from your old URLs and keep your URL structure consistent.
Do I have to recreate categories and tags after import?
Not always. If metadata is missing during the scan, you can add or map it during mapping rather than rebuilding it after the fact.
