How to Find Hidden or Broken Elements in the Sparkforge Email Builder
In the Sparkforge email builder, click the burger menu at the bottom of the Content tab to open Manage Template. The layer tree exposes every element, even ones you accidentally collapsed to zero height or width.
If you've ever shrunk an image to 1px or set padding to zero, you know elements can disappear from the email canvas with no way to click them back. The Manage Template layer view fixes this.
Open the layer tree
- Open the email in the builder.
- Switch to the Content tab.
- At the bottom of the Content tab, click the burger menu (three horizontal lines).
- The Layer panel opens, showing the full element tree.
Navigate the tree
- Click the + next to a section to expand and reveal child elements.
- Hover a node in the tree — the builder canvas auto-scrolls to that element and highlights it.
- Click a node to select the element. From there, edit it normally — restore height, width, padding, or delete it outright.
Worked example
If you reduced an image's height to 10px, it vanishes from the canvas. In the Manage Template panel, hover the first image in the first section — the builder scrolls to that hidden image and selects it. Now you can reset its dimensions or remove it.
When to use this
- An element is in the export but invisible in the canvas.
- Mobile preview shows content the desktop canvas can't select.
- You inherited a template and need to audit every element.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where exactly is the burger menu?
At the bottom of the Content tab in the email builder, below the standard element list. Three horizontal lines stacked together.
Can I delete elements from the layer tree?
Yes. Select the element via the tree node, then use the standard delete control in the editing panel.
Does this work for hidden text blocks too?
Yes. Any element type — text, image, button, divider, spacer — appears in the layer tree regardless of its visibility.
Why does the canvas not scroll when I hover a node?
Make sure the parent section is expanded. If the element's parent is collapsed in the tree, hovering may not trigger scroll.
