How to Disable SEO Indexing for WordPress Sites in Sparkforge
Sparkforge's Discourage SEO Indexing toggle adds noindex/nofollow rules to your WordPress site's robots.txt and meta tags from the dashboard. Only admin users can flip it, and changes apply instantly across the site (not per-page).
Staging sites, internal projects, and half-built pages do not belong in Google's index. Sparkforge ships a one-click toggle inside WordPress management that handles the noindex rules for you — no plugin, no wp-admin login.
What the toggle does
When you flip Discourage SEO Indexing on, Sparkforge writes two changes to your site:
- Adds
noindex, nofollowrules torobots.txtso compliant crawlers skip the site. - Injects
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">into the page header to back up the directive.
The setting applies at the site level. There is no page-by-page exclusion in this control — if you need that granularity, use a WordPress SEO plugin alongside it.
Who can change it
Only admin-level users on the sub-account can view or modify the toggle. Standard users will not see it.
How to turn it on
- Log into the sub-account.
- Open Sites in the left nav.
- Click the WordPress tab.
- Find the site and click Manage Website.
- Open Advanced Settings, then WordPress Management.
- Toggle Discourage SEO Indexing to ON.
Sparkforge confirms the change on save. The robots.txt and meta tag updates are live immediately.
Verify the change
Two quick checks:
- Visit
yourdomain.com/robots.txtand look for the noindex/nofollow rules. - View the page source on any URL and search for the
robotsmeta tag.
For a deeper check, run Google Search Console's URL Inspection on a page and confirm the indexing status.
What it does not do
- It does not block non-compliant scrapers — only crawlers that respect robots directives.
- It does not stop Google Analytics, Tag Manager, or other tracking scripts from running.
- It does not affect site speed or visitors who reach the URL directly.
If you also use Yoast or RankMath, the Sparkforge setting takes priority for indexing rules.
