Authorize Card Payments in Sparkforge Funnels (V2)
In the V2 funnel builder, open the product, scroll to Additional Options, set a Custom Authorization amount, and save. Sparkforge holds and refunds the amount to verify funds before the plan begins.
Card authorization in the Version 2 funnel builder verifies a customer can pay before their subscription or payment plan starts. Sparkforge holds the amount, then refunds it once approved.
If you're on Version 1, use the V1 instructions instead.
How authorization works
- Authorization is off by default — enable it per plan.
- Sparkforge debits the authorize amount, then credits it back after approval.
- If funds aren't available, the customer can't complete checkout.
- Trial days start the moment the card is authorized.
- Refunds can take up to 5 business days to clear back to the customer.
- Works only with Subscriptions and Payment plans.
To authorize across multiple plans on the same form, repeat the setup for every plan.
Enable authorization (Version 2)
- Open the funnel step that holds the order form and click Products. Add products first if none are attached.
- Click the Edit icon on the plan you want to authorize.
- Scroll to the bottom and expand Additional Options.
- In Custom Authorization, enter your amount.
- Click Save.
Authorization amount rules
- Must be at least 1.
- Maximum two decimal places.
- Must be a positive number.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's a safe authorization amount?
$1 is standard. The amount is held and refunded, so a small value confirms funds without affecting the customer's usable balance for long.
Does authorization work on one-time products?
No. Card authorization only applies to Subscriptions and Payment plans — not single-charge products.
How long before refunds clear?
Refunds can take up to 5 business days to post back to the customer's bank, depending on their issuer.
Do trial days start before authorization?
No. Trial days begin the moment the card is authorized, not when the form is submitted.
