How to Add an Additional Domain to a WordPress Site in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Open the WordPress site settings, click Add Domain, generate a CNAME, add both the CNAME and A records at your registrar, then verify and create the certificate.

Add an extra domain to a WordPress site that runs on Sparkforge hosting. The flow is: generate the records inside Sparkforge, paste them at your domain registrar, and verify.

Steps to add the domain

  1. Open the domain panel. In your WordPress site, click Add domain or sub-domain.
  2. Generate the CNAME. Enter the domain you want to use, click Generate CNAME, and copy the Key and Value.
  3. Add the CNAME at your registrar. Paste the values into a new CNAME record. Tick the box confirming the record is in place, then click Verify and Create Certificate.
  4. Add the A record. Copy the A record value from the same popup and add it at your registrar.
  5. Set as primary. Once DNS propagates, set the new domain as primary from the WordPress dashboard.

CNAME and A record values vary (for example, wp1.msgsndr.com, wp2.msgsndr.com). Always copy the value shown on your screen — do not assume.

Registrar-specific guides

The exact UI for adding a CNAME differs across registrars. Sparkforge has guides for Cloudflare, Domain.com, BlueHost, HostGator, GoDaddy, and Namecheap. Propagation can be instant or take 24–48 hours — check status at dnschecker.org.

Troubleshooting

  • Typo in the domain name. Fix the typo and retry.
  • DNS not propagated yet. Wait several hours and try again.
  • DNS misconfigured. Contact your domain provider to walk through the records.
  • Conflicting records. If a subdomain has both a CNAME and an A record pointing to different providers, remove the duplicate.

Most domain issues live on the registrar side. Sparkforge support cannot edit DNS at your registrar — work with the provider that holds the domain.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does DNS take to propagate?
Some providers update instantly, others take 24–48 hours. Check status with a tool like dnschecker.org before troubleshooting further.
Why does the CNAME value say wp1, wp2, or something else?
Sparkforge assigns sites to different hosting clusters, so your CNAME target may differ from another site's. Always use the exact value shown in the Generate CNAME popup.
What if I get a duplicate-record error?
Check whether the same subdomain already has a conflicting CNAME or A record at your registrar. Remove the conflicting record before retrying.
Can Sparkforge support edit my DNS for me?
No. DNS records live at your domain registrar. Sparkforge can verify what records are needed but cannot log in to your registrar to make the change.
